2 Litre 2.5 Litre Scooby Engines
Jst wondering which is the best for mods & what you can acheive.
I have a 2 litre but notice the 2.5 litre seems to be able to handle bigger mods/bhp etc. Wondered what the rest of you think and, any examples of power on 2/2.5 blocks. Regards Alan MaC |
I was lead to believe that the 2.5 in standard form, was not quite as strong as the 2ltr? (in STi form) Re-built with uprated componants, it would then be capable of big bhp with the extra half litre offering good torque gains.

A std STI engine like mine have been run at up to 450 bhp.
The 2.5 engine isn't going to get to that figure, however the huge torque figures they produce make an awesome road car. Mine 380/360 2.0 STI, Bez's 2.5 WRX 300/380 but at much lower revs. so he will be quicker ! HTH DunxC |

Horses for Courses
will depend on the Turbo, how it's MAPPed etc etc. WRX lighter/STi 6sp heavier ;) Lots have big "power" differences but not that much difference in 1/4 mile times or 2secs faster on this circuit 2 secs slower on that circuit etc etc. I'd prefer the 2.5ltr WRX 5sp on the road but the STi 6sp on the Track ;) This is my personal preference and the "Stig" may get better results, I've tried most newage Scoob variation ;) I have beaten cars with lest weight AND greater peak BHP than mine on twisties/handling etc. so numbers aren't everything ;) Tony |
2.35 is the best option for power and reliabilty

Step away from the keyboard Shaun, or at least tell me what the block mod is by PM ;) :p

Why is that then..... or is this one of these Subaru Tuning myths! ;)
2.35 =closed deck, that will rev = power :) |
I appreciate the CDB thing, but at what power level has it been proven (not saying it has not) that a semi-open deck block gives up and a CDB will continue to keep on going?
My 2.5L will rev well beyond 8k. The rev limit has been set at 8200 since it was put in and is used. ;) So much for 2.5's not reving hey! :D It is as happy to rev to 8200rpm as the 2ltr engine that came out. :) |
but .... why rev the nuts off it when you have the power everywhere else ?
Got to be a 2.5 every time - there is no substitute for engine capacity. Oh and over 400 on a std 2.5 sti engine is as reliable as over 400 bhp on a std 2.0 sti from what I have seen. oh and Peanuts .... I am 99% sure I know what the mod is ... but I'm not telling either :D |
The 2.0 is a more reliable engine when tuning, thats fact.
:) |
In most cases, that is utter horse crap!
|
Duncan,
I like to rev my nuts..... don't you! :D |

Come on, Subaru can't get 400 bhp out of one (2.5).... out the box !

When someone says "tuning" I assume that means the ability to alter internals if required, as I certainly have not said anything about standard. ;)
