Is anyone else suffering from hayfever at the moment?
 

I've had it really bad for the last few days, today in particular has been terrible. I've taken antihistimines and Beconase but as soon as I set foot outside I start sneezing.

I'm guessing it's mould spores that set it off but I also get it late Feb to June/July then again in Sept/October which I believe is tree pollen followed by grass/flower pollen. I seem to spend most of the year with hayfever and it's REALLY annoying :mad: :D

I used to get bad Hayfever and Asthma late summer to Christmas, started cycling and I dont get it any more, I suspect its my lungs working harder and the amount of snot I leave on the route to work :D

Sleep outside for a few nights and you will become immune.

I've never really had it, but I've got the gayest cold at the moment, I wonder if that's what it is :wonder:

I feel fine, I've just got a snottery beak (yellow bogies), sneezing like hell and the bridge of my nose hurts a bit.

Hmmmm, I've been sneezing like hell the last few days, I thought I was getting a cold! Perhaps it's hayfever :wonder:

Same here. I used to just get it June to Sept, but its all year now. Tablet every day or its just a nightmare.

I think mine may have developed into a dust allergy.

Scoobychick, I used to suffer from it like hell until March 2008. 300/365 days with hayfever type of illness all the time. When it was in the aggressive form, I would perfer to be dead than alive, it was so uncomfortable! I haven't been smoking since April. It made a hell of a lot of difference in the quality of my life. No ashtrays around, no smoking in the kitchen with the window open, no tobacco smells, no yellow finger tips, no fear of my teeth going stained any further:D, less chances for carbon coated lungs, no disgustful looks from my kids for my smoking addiction and, I have only had about 3 short spells of hayfever-ish type of illness since I have given up smoking. Can't define just one reason for hayfever either.There are so many instigating/aggravating factors for it. Don't know if you smoke, but giving up smoking certainly helps chronic hayfever and cold sufferers.

I know what I said above is a common sense. But I hear many people suffering from hayfever and allergies, yet they continue to aggravate their illness by smoking. I was one of them. So, I just thought if sharing it, that's all. Many non-smokers suffer from it too. I hear that increasing exercises has helped people's vulnerability to hayfever and allergies, like Jacko said above; more than the regular intake of VitaminC and antihistamines has.

I may be allergic to my cats' hair too. But there's no way I am giving them up :nono: :D

Think it could be the opposite with me. I gave up smoking about 4 years ago and that just about ties in with my hay fever getting worse :confused:

You can get allergy test done. It may help. I might have been allergic to the tobacco itself, for what I know.
I also hear that the state of mind has a lot to do with the worsening hayfever type of symptoms,or worsening of many other illnesses. I don't know about yours, but stressful job/surrounding/circumstances don't help either. You may rule out these things too, as it could be some kind of allergy to something you are not aware of.

Mine is pretty much all year round with about a month off for good behaviour :D In answer to Swati no, I don't smoke :)

Have you tried Homeopathic medicine, Sally? A friend of mine took a long homeopathy treatment for hayfever. Appaently, It has eradicated her illness. Saying that, there are so many atti-Homeopathy talk these days, one never knows what's safe to try. :wonder:

I suffered badly many years ago. But got some great tablets from the doc. You could also buy them over the counter and I probably had more than I should have done.

But they were withdrawn as it was found they could damage the heart :nono:

So I am now clear of hay fever but have heart disease :D :D

Yep, I get this too - about this time of year. In fact was sneezing my head off only 5 mins ago. I think its to do with the first week or so of having the heating on after the summer. The pollen sits in the carpets etc and warming the house from 17c ish to 21c ish lifts it all up. IMHO.

Columbian Flu. It always get's worse on the run up to Christmas...

In 2007, I switched on to non-drowsy Benadryl Plus whenever my hayfever was in most agressive state. I found it very effective as a 5-day course on worst occasions, although even this non-drowsy prescription made me feel as if I was walking on the moon all that time :cool: :D Farmacist wouldn't let you buy more than one pack at a time, as some people in America make crystal meth with it :eek: Anyway, I found Benadryl Plus very good to combat with hayfever on peak.

get some vaseline and smear it on the inside of your nostrils.
As you breath in, the pollen sticks to the vaseline instead of going inside you and causing an allergic reaction.
Try it. It works.

No hayfever here, just a rather nice chest infection that is giving me the speech of a young lad whose voice is breaking :mad: :o

Nope, only get Hayfever in spring to be honest. I do have the sniffles but I have a cough to go with it so think its a cold more than hayfever
