Fencing (the sport, not the things in your garden)

I'm looking for a new hobby and was thinking about taking up fencing and wondered if anyone here had done it, or indeed still do it?

It's energetic, good for reactions, social etc, but is it expensive to get into?

Its surprisingly cheap and youll be able to use club kit for free until you decide its for you / buy your own.

I keep meaning to re-start: I havent been your about five years.

I think that people are confusing sabres with the more common epee and foil. In the majority of the fencing that youll have seen, the participant will be using a foil: sabres are more of a niche. Theyre probably popular with ze Germans, though.....

Did fencing with foils and such when I was at school, was a good laugh unless the plastic tips came off the end of them and you got one in the leg, lol bloooooooood! :lol1:

Go for it mate, it's muchos fun :)

Foils are made with a broadened rounded tip now. You must have been at school in the nineteenth century! :)

:lol1:
Well, they must have got ours from that time indeed, I definitely remember pointy evil ends if the plastic nubbins came off  :lol1:
Was probably one of those school stories but I'm sure someone got one in the neck, many many a year before.
Obviously it's much safer now! :lol1: :)
