Just got 3 points!

Just had a nip through the post. :(

Does anyone know how much extra this will put my insurance up by???

bluenosewrx 28 October 2008 11:32 PM

Most companies do not add any now mate, depends on the offence as well. SP30 Etc.

but DO let them know.

SteveScooby 29 October 2008 12:38 AM

SP50

Butty 29 October 2008 08:31 AM

SP50 didn't add anything on mine, but it might vary on insurer.
Just make sure you tell them about it.

Did you not get the option to go on a speed awareness course?

My missus got off lightly I guess?, you just have to pay the £60 fine and attend this course and you dont get the points!! She said its just half a day and all they do is drum the speed limit into you..............

I got 3 points going for a dinner run for the guys at work last year, most expensive chicken burger and chips I've bought:mad: Think they stay on for 3 years aswell, could be wrong? Dont think it will affect your insurance though!

chrisdicko 29 October 2008 11:27 AM

Yeah, how long do they stay on for? And when do they run from? As in when you got caught, or when you got convicted....

Jamescsti 29 October 2008 12:08 PM

They are valid for 3 years in terms of totting up proccedure but stay on for 5, it varies from one insurer to another as to whether you have to declare them after 3 years

Jamescsti 29 October 2008 12:09 PM

Oh and I believe it's from date of conviction too, I've got 4 points and it is the date of conviction on my licence, which was 9 months after the incident happened

points stay on for 4yrs, :thumb: claims and convictions have to be declaired to your insureres if within five years.

It depends on the endorsement type. it could be from 4 to 11 years.
When endorsements and penalty points can be removed from a driving licence : Directgov - Motoring

From directgov:
Date of conviction for serious offences like dangerous driving; for speeding and less serious offences it is from date of offence.

Although points stay on for four years, they only count for totting up purposes for three years, i.e. 12 points in three years = ban.

Ah I stand corrected thatnks for that, I got 4 points for driving without due care after an accident, must be from date of offence then, was not one of the more serious offences i.e not a fatal etc

As has been said it the more serious stuff there interested in like dangerous, drink and careless, causing death ect, ect, which all stay on your licence longer anyway so you would have to declare them.
my reply was with regard to the op's speeding points, which he wouldn't have to declare once spent unless that is the insurance co in the spiel they read to you at point of sale includes the 5yr clause which all the ones iv'e dealt with in the last 25yrs have done. my moto with insurance is " If in doubt spit it out" which also works in lots of other situations:lol1:

Years ago I got a SP30 - 5 points and fine (long story)
I was driving an Astra GTE at the time, My insurance was due the same week and I'd just had my renewal. I phoned them up expecting a massive hike in my premium. It didn't change the price 1p as it was my first offence.
I would imagine you will be in the same boat if it's your first conviction m8.

Good luck.

Think that is only for offences normal roads not motorways or i would have taken that option gladly if available when i got caught.
