Does anyone know about furniture? Pics inside

Due to a death in the family we have been charged with getting rid of some items in the house. I know the owner had previously been in touch with Sotherbies (sp) Thats as far as it goes.

Can anyone shed any light on what this is and if it is worth anything.

Other than those pics I cant really give any more info on it, other than he had it for years and by all accounts he paid quite a bit for it.

Any help would be great. :)

A few pics of the insides, hinges, joints, top, bottom and back would greatly assist.

My instincts are crying out at me that its not worth as much as you think - appears to have a lot of "stuck on" detail added.

3 reasons why I think this:
The top curve of the glass panels is for effect only.
The (lots of them) surface mounted mouldings.
The top "ornate" moulding.

If it had some nice construction points, high quality joints, high quality timber, etc etc then its value would be greater.
Whatever its period or construction, it will have some value.

Stick it through a decent auction house and see what it brings.

My insticts were that its not worth a great deal, however I said to the other half that I would do some digging on it.

Prob is getting it anywhere its bloody heavy.

See if there are any auction houses covering your area.
Give em a bell and they should send someone round to have a look.
If they think its worth putting into auction they can arrange its transportation to the auction house.

As a rough estimate of age, I'd say it was made withing the last 100 or so years.

any names on the inside, or on the hinges or underside of the drawers/shelves etc? have a good look around and see if you can find any markings - that might give you a better starting point

as said before sorry to hurt your feelings but it looks like some right old s**t. Burn it and get yourself down to Ikea :thumb: truly quality stuff.

If you can't bring yourself to burn it I'll take it away for you;)

I want cookie to be seen to be going down to Antiques Roadshow, lugging that huge thing in a van, manhandling it to the front of the queue, dropping it on people's toes, generally swearing and sweating a lot. Only to be told it is worth about £65.99 :D :lol1:
