can someone tell me what 'pot' refers to when talking brakes please ...

ie 4pot 6pot etc

Pots or pistons they push the brake pad against the disk. Genarally speaking the more pots the better the brakes.

The POT means the piston which is in the caliper a 4 pot caliper has two either side. A 6 pot has three either side.
The pots are in contact with the back off the pads which then pushes the pads on the discs:)
Not a very good description but I hope you understand!!
