rik1471 26 October 2008 06:35 PM

Adsa just did a 60GB 360 with Fable II and Pro Evo 9 for £167.

An absolute steal.

Wizzbang 26 October 2008 06:37 PM

HMV are doing the Xbox360 Elite with 2 games for £229

Seems quite a good deal

logiclee 26 October 2008 07:02 PM

Some say XBox 360 has a better range of games and better online play but you pay for it.

PS3 is the more powerfull console, software is catching up, online play getting better and is free, blu-ray player included. It can act as a Media server through your PC and WiFi streaming music, video and photo's direct to you av suystem and TV.

I'd say the PS3 has it unless your a pure gaming nerd.

Cheers

The 360 can also do the above, and has better codec support than the PS3.

In order to cut costs, sony have crippled the original console. The current ones dont have a card reader, has only 2 usb ports and has lost the ability to play older PS2 games. Only now has it got a decent hard drive size, but the console remains crippled and yet the price remains more or less the same.

360 elite all the way, buy the ps3 if your after a blu-ray player.

Remind me .....when does the game actually get released ???

As stated above, 360 does all the media stuff too, and theres a probability that bluray will be supported in the way of a plug in drive for it too soon.

As for online play, its true that Xbox live is subscription but you do get an awful lot for your years subs (which cost £40 if bought from MS, but only £25 if bought from ebay)

seven x 26 October 2008 09:13 PM

PS3 - better console + Blu-Ray + Wifi.

Just depends what the thread starters priorities are.

Hard core gamers may prefer the XBox.

AV and tech junkies may prefer the PS3.

The PS3 has better titles due for release and will catch up with the 360 but the 360 will always lag behind the ps3 technicaly and requires add ons for Wifi and no BluRay.

It's expected the 360 will fall behind the PS3 for sales by the end of the year and the PS3 is expected to completely outsell the 360 in 2009. Better PS3 titles, reduction of the PS3 price and the collapse of HD-DVD have all hit 360 sales.
Both machines fall behind the Wii in the sales league though. Which just goes to show price + fun + marketing = sales.

Cheers

Buy a games console because it plays movies great advice, which btw bluray hasnt caught on like they hoped.

Wifi, yes you have to buy it on 360 but it still makes they console a hell of a lot cheaper.

The ps3 has no better titles in the pipe line.

erm? 360 is out selling the ps3 nicely and has an attachment ratio of 8.1 compared to wii 5.3 and ps3 5.1, sales are up.

MS have a rediculous amount of titles released in the run up to christmas. If you want bluray, buy a bluray player, if you want a games console with media addon's get the 360 ;)

KiwiGTI 27 October 2008 04:55 AM

Yes, by far the 360 is the better gaming console. So far the PS3 has not lived up to expectations and in fact most of the cross-platform games look exactly the same as the 360 or a little bit worse.

The vast majority of games are going to be released on all platforms, the 360 is the easiest to code for. Do you really think there is any incentive for game developers to spend loads more on a title just so it can look better on the PS3? No, they'll just develop them to the same standard - people are going to buy it regardless. That is if you really believe that the PS3 has noticeably better graphics capabilities anyway, which seems to be arguable according to some developers.

As for exclusives, well GT5 is a long way off, Prologue was crap and if that was any indication of the final product then it's not worth getting that anyway. Metal Gear Solid is an acquired taste and good for those who like watching cut scenes rather than playing.

And finally for about £180 you can buy a standalone Sony BDP-350 Blu-ray player which is better than the PS3 for Blu-ray playback.

Blu-Ray sales are expected to outstrip DVD sales within 4 years so I fail to see how they haven't taken on. Players are now down to around £150 and discs down to around £15. The magic under £100 for a player and under £10 a disc is expected sometime next year although the world economic slowdown has effected sales.
Buying a console isn't just about games for many people, Sony always intended the PS3 to be much more than just a games machine.

myblackwrx 27 October 2008 11:15 AM

Personally i went with the 360 because

1: Xbox 360 came out first
2: PS pads are ****
3: 360 online is better than PSN and don't mind paying for it (admittedley had to buy the console to find that out :))
4: Very few exclusive titles on the PS3 i would want to play and most games i do play are avaliable on both formats.
5: Don't give a toss about Blu Ray

Neanderthal 27 October 2008 11:35 AM

Buy a dictionary ;)

Look at the 'exclusive' games available for each different console. Then choose the console that has the majority of the type of games you want to play available for it.

In what way?

I do have both sat in my AV rack.

The 350 has very slightly less picture noise but you have to study the picture and keep switching between the two to notice any difference. Picture from both is superb even at 2Metres distance on a 52" screen.
Sound? The 350 can bitstream all the formats but the PS3 can decode them and output them as PCM. Very slight difference but the 350 is slightly better meaning my £1k AV reciever is probably better at decoding than the PS3. If you can't decode the new HD Audio formats in your amp then there will not be any differnce in sound quality, PCM from both sounds exactly the same.
So the S350 is fractionally better with picture and sound if you have high end gear but it lags in other areas.
The PS3 is far quicker on disc start up, disc menus are smoother and quicker acting and the PS3's Wifi means BD2.0 discs live content are quick and easy to obtain.
Buy a PS3 Blu-Ray remote for around £10 and both players are equally straight forward to use.

Cheers
Lee

360 all the way ^ for all the reasons above.

I just bought a PS3 and it's not been on much yet played a bit of metal gear but after using 360 controllers for so long the PS controller feels light/cheap and the triggers are utter tosh.

EddScott 27 October 2008 05:43 PM

I had a 360 for about a month. bought Forza 2, hated the feel of the game and sold the lot. Plus I didn't like the pad.

Had my PS3 for over 6 months and its great. Mostly used as a Blu ray player as i only have GT5 and Colin Dirt.

Wireless built in and picked up and hand shaked my Orange Livebox without a problem.

scoobyverysoon 27 October 2008 09:07 PM

Get a 360 to keep your room warm this winter RROD should follow for spring.;)

Now the PS3 has the rumble back the pads tons better IMO

zs_phil 27 October 2008 09:13 PM

at the end of the day people who own xbox 360's and people who own a ps3 are going to say buy what they have and slag each others console off .

BluFan 27 October 2008 11:17 PM

I would easily go with a PS3. In the beginning, the 360 definitely had better game offerings, but now I think that it has really evened out. The PS3 is a much stronger system, meaning that it will only continue to get better, while the 360 is pretty much at its limit for what it can do graphically. Finally, the media center capabilities really make the PS3 the best choice. Blu-ray is simply awesome and won't be going anywhere. The PS3 is definitely the better value for the money. I've been working with Warner Home Video on blu-ray projects lately and they expect the format to only get bigger.

KiwiGTI 28 October 2008 01:58 AM

Where do people get the idea that the 360 is at it's limit and that there is going to being some sort of quantum leap in PS3 graphics quality? Stop listening and spreading hear-say and read what developers have to say and what is acceptable from a commercial level.

Many of us have both, in fact many of us have every console released in the last decade and then some.
