Vredstein Sessanta's 215/40/17 87Y XL
Just swapped from 4 Goodyear Eagle F1's 215/45/17 91Y XL to the new Sessantas's, intial impression is big improvement, feel very different to the GY and back on the preferred 40mm profile.
I noticed the thread pattern on the Sessanta's is not mirrored either side, the grove is on the inside on all 4 wheels, yet one side the thread goes one way and on the other side it goes the other. Is this correct? and whats its called? |
It's called asymmetric..;)
Basically the tread pattern should be a mirror image side to side eg: |\\\ F ///| |\\\ R ///| IYSWIM..? |

The Sessantas are weird, since they are asymmetric but not directional.
Unlike a directional tyre you can swap them easily from one side to the other, but there is only one pattern. Any wheel can be moved to any corner of the car. This makes them look a bit odd because one side always looks like it is the wrong way round... adapting the diagram from jasonius they are actually like this, with the groove on the inside: \\\| F |\\\ \\\| R |\\\ It isn't a mistake ! They are also noticeably quieter than most other tyres. |
^^^ What he said.
I had Vredestein on my Focus, and god did they grip in the wet. Never felt wet grip like it. |
I run sessantas on my Spec C and i have to say they are the best tyre to date that i have ever used :thumb: outstanding in all conditions so much better than goodyears IMO

I've not tried the sessantas and have no doubt they're a great tyre, but the new f1A's are outstanding in every situation. Compared to my previous toyo t1rs, which are also considered a good tyre, there's absolutely no comparison..! Just out of interest, it seems you can now get the GY F1A in a 215/45 17..;) Lol, never noticed that about the sessanta tread pattern, it would look a bit odd from the read IMHO. |
