Pulling away with my old AP paddle was a nightmare! When driving,as you said it would engage with a jolt.Mine had no drive springs, and was a bit harsh for road use. When giving it the beans mind it was awsome!

Feed the clutch in, rather than just letting go. The smoother you are, the smoother the engagement will be.

A paddle clutch just needs getting used to. Presumably you didn't know it would be that different. If you treat it as what it is - a clutch that doesn't like being slipped - you'll soon get the hang of it. Paddle clutches will never be fun in heavy traffic though, although in normal driving you can get quite smooth with practice.

well i knoew it would be, ive had an rx7 and 2 skylines with different clutches but i got used to them pretty quick, this one just seems a bit harsher than any of the others, i guess i just need practise only had it a few days! lol

Different paddle clutches will have different driving characteristics.

There are so many variations available.

I was finding my paddle a little difficult to get on with aswell, it was very harsh on the take up. I swapped out my engine mounts for the uprated ones going in the group buy at the moment and the drivability has been greatly improved.
