Foreign truckers and accidents

BBC NEWS | England | Five killed in crash blaze on M6

This is getting all to frequent now, Foreign truckers who dont abide by the same rules as UK truckers. Yet again innocent people have been killed. The guy has been arrested apparently.

:(

Flatcapdriver 21 October 2008 10:01 AM

Strangely enough, it happens in mainland Europe as well except it British truckers involved.

davegtt 21 October 2008 10:02 AM

To be fair we dont know exactly what happened and hes not been charged with anything yet.

Radio today said a man had been charged with causing death by dangerous driving.

The Chief 21 October 2008 10:11 AM

It sounds like it was caused by another accident on the opposite carriageway when a van driver died and everyone slowed down to rubber neck, the sooner the highways agency get the accident screens up the better.

stilover 21 October 2008 10:25 AM

Hate to say it, but.................

Being a foreign driver, He'll be bailed to go home to Portugal, never to return.

Remember the foreign lorry driver who killed by driving on the wrong side of the road? Head on crash. Got away scot-free, as his defence convinced the jury that he was innocent by the fact that the UK drive on the wrong side of the road to the rest of Europe.

This drivers fault or not, he ain't going to jail. Sad fact, but we don't have a great record of bringing foreign driving offenders to court, yet alone jailing them.

i live right next to north shields ferry terminal for dfds and honestly

some of the foreigners coming over have no clue whatsoever what is going on

have left for work in the morning, drove up the lane and saw streams of them coming out the port, then driving around the roundabout the wrong way etc etc

complete madness, i am positive it puts my car insurance up

No different when us brits visit foreign shores and do the exact same thing.

Personally, i think you should have to pass an additional driving test to drive anywhere abroad.

20 month old, and 10 week old babies killed in the crash :( such a terrible loss of life for the whole family

and former Widnes Rugby League star David Myers killed about an hour or so earlier, which possibly contributed to the later accident

The Chief 22 October 2008 12:54 AM

Yeap agree absolutely terrible, happened at a low speed apparently.

No doubt the anti motorist brigade will be calling for average speed cameras to be placed on the M6 now - They will use this as an excuse. Thing is ok it might not have made a difference in this instance but we need to get rid of all this scamera crap and get more traffic police on our motorways that can make rational judgments.

A very sad day though:(

DYK 22 October 2008 08:56 PM

I drove past were it happened this morning, and just as i got a few mile further there was another accident on the south side.A silver golf and arctic truck, couldn't see if it was a foreigner though.I think it's not just about foreign drivers but driving in general in this country. There are to many idiot drivers out there, who are impatient and do crazy maneuvers just to try and get a few seconds in front,or are just not paying attention to the road. And i still think it's crazy that in this country you can pass a driving test, then go out and drive on a motorway right away, because it would seem that there is getting more inexperienced people who are driving on motorways.I see the guy who killed that other family with his Range Rover, got a light prison sentence.RIP to the family

agree its a terrible loss for the whole family RIP.

it makes me mad when i hear of children being killed before they have experienced life but the bad apples in life ie drug dealers burglars killers etc seem to get rewarded in life ,like micheal carrol the lottery winner who abuses everyone still to this day

Scary thing on the way home last night.

Polish car in the LEFT hand lane and stopped on the ASL (the bike box at the front of the queue) and when the lights changed he turned RIGHT!

Cue much screeching of brakes and near misses as this car swung across in front of the next lane of traffic.

This must be a Polish traffic thing, my mate owns a static caravan in Abergele Wales and next to it is this really straight road with a junction. around three months back there was a really bad accident and involved a polish driver and his wife and their little baby, i dont know the outcome but it did not look good as it was a side impact, the Polish driver apparently just turned right in front of a guy travelling straight on doing 50-60 mph. With it being a nsl road any sort of accident is a bad one.:(
