I had my Unichip fitted a few weeks ago and I've noticed boost varies considerably ie sometimes its peaking a 17psi (very rare) other times 14-15. Also should it hold peak boost or drop off as per standard car.
The car is a Uk my 00 full scoobysport exhaust and and electronic boost controller. Cheers Sam |

Sammy,
17psi does not sound over the top for a UK car, as long as the fueling and ignition is set correctly. The boost can vary due to weather conditions. The colder it is, the more boost you should attain. It can also vary according to load on engine, eg. if you climbing a steep hill on full knacker, you will may see higher boost than say on a straight. The boost differences you mention is nothing to stress about (ranging from .95 bar to 1.15 bar), based on the above reasons. But this all depends on whether it has been set-up to run at 1.15bar!!!!!!! Not saying that this is the norm, but if you have had a UNICHIP fitted, without a boost controller, then you will see fall off of boost higher up the rev range. The best thing you can do, is take the car back to the fitters, and have it checked over. Shaun. |
Sam,
You have mail Grant |
sammyh,
Did you have the Unichip boost controller add-on fitted as well or is it still running the standard subaru solenoid control? Thinking about having this done on my 00MY. Or maybe PPP....????? |
Doh!
Just read the post again! Is your boost controller the Unichip one or another type? I assume the point of an electronic three-way boost control unit is to be able to hold consistent levels of boost regardless of ambient temp or no-boost to boost transients ie planting it on a flat road vs uphill etc |
Ive just had the same problem. I had mine set to 1.2 bar but it would raise itself to 1.4-1.5 bar, hitting the overboost cutout.
Took it back to Powerstation yesterday, and had it set up again and it is perfect. Thanx lads. Now its pulling 292lb-ft torque at 3800rpm, so i`m well chuffed. Paul http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif |
Mine was running @ 1.4 Bar with 305BHP on PS rollers and over 290lbts torque http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif
When I changes my exhaust the boost went to 1.6 Bar http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/eek.gif overboost but was reset to 1.4. |
