coil question

hey guys,

ever scince i replaced my coil the engine won't fire? yet it ran on the old coil.

I used a new set of K1 ignition leads thinking they will do the job so i dunno wether its them not sending a decent spark to the plugs.

any help will be apreciated.

Put the old coil pack back on and try it again - if it runs, that will eliminate the HT Leads and point to the coil pack.
Have you got the HT Leads on the right way/cylinder ??

i phoned my mechanic up to try that today mate, so hopefully will know in the next few days.

Is it common for a new genuine coil pack to be faulty.

I'm assuming the leads on the right way round, i mean its impossible that the leads could be the wrong way round, as the central coil pack is based on which lead goes to which cylinder lol.

I've heard bad things about the K1 leads, steve simpson at TEG suggested i get some OE leads as aftermarket ones sometimes dont clip onto the spark plug properly.

If you take the lead/s off/substitute one at a time, then you can't get muddled up - which is what you're saying above, right? :)

For the record, is the EJ20 engine's firing order 1-3-4-2 (like most 4cyl units)? :wonder:

EDIT: Just to answer my own question lol :lol1:... no it's 1-3-2-4...

heres a question is the coil pack different between a EJ20 and EJ25 as i got a coil ordered from GGR based on the reg of the car?

Check the resistance of the leads - ball park figure of 10 ohms per foot of HT lead

EJ25 turbos' have never had a coil pack, just plug top coils.

97/98 coil packs are different to 99/00, all other turbos are plug top coil (single coil in each one, but often illogically called coil packs - Doh - trouble is its been used so long everyone knows what is meant!).

Yeah, I second this view, lol.

mine has a coil in the centre, i think the spec of the engine is a EJ25 with version 5 uk spec turbo heads. i would of thought when the conversion was done the v5 heads must of come from a 98 spec car, but the question is did the original terzo's v4 heads differ between the v4 and v5 which is where the prob is. would it be worth trying a coil of a later spec turbo or not realy?
