So if I put 225 tyres on my 03 WRX....

...currently shod with 215 tyres, what is it going to do to the handling? Anything? Better/worse?

Not sure what the effect of the wider tyre will be (just know someone who bought some for an STi then bought wheels so has the tyres spare!

cheers,

My pal KojaK has just done this, he reckons it's better in the wet, but I didn't see him this weekend....

I've put 225/45 x17's on my Hawkeye, and the changes I've noticed have been down to changing from RE050's to F1A's rather than the size change, other than the fact I really need some mudflaps now! Not sure if you would notice a significant change just from the slightly wider tyre.

Interesting. Had responses on a few boards now with some variety! They've gone from no difference to deffo moves about more putting the wider tyre on the slimmer wheel.

Thinking i'll just stick with the 215's know where i am then!

a couple of points:

a 225 will be;

heavier (not good :()
possibly look a bit 'fat' for the 7J rim :(
and change overall gearing, tyre will have greater circ. (good for speedo accuracy, but IMHO not good for the 5sp uk gear ratios..:()

Now you can fit 7.5J STI (>05) wheels, however they weight a ton compared to your 7J's..:eek:

If your happy with the look then just stick with a good 215 (Vredestein do a 215/45 17 iirc, unfortunately, GY don't [or at least didn't] do that size in their F1 Asymmetric, otherwise that would be another choice).

If your looking to address the 'under tyred' look of the WRX then I'd suggest fitting some nice lightweight after market 17's or better still 18's. I have OZ super leggs in an 18x8J with 225/40 18 GYA's on mine. They look much better, filling the arches very well and have none of the disadvantages of the above..:)

Buying a wheel/tyre package will save you money, as you need 4 new boots anyhow. Just make sure you get a good alloy with a tyre of your choice (pref. one of the above)..;)

:thumb: thanks chap. Plenty to consider. Might got for 18's at some point but as with a lot of people money is on the tight side the now. I'm thinking silver or white when i do go for it though. Heard a few good things about the Vedresteins too.....
