Oil breather removal
 

In the process of removing my oil breathers to the intake. Have bought myslef a samco 76-60mm reducing elbow, and i am going to run the oil breathers to a catch can (coke bottle for now).

However i have noticed that the crank breather is taken to the intake and to the inlet manifold. Can i just block of the inlet to the inlet manifold and feed the crank breather to the catch can?

Hi, the crank breather has a t in it,which goes to the inlet hose,and the pcv on the inlet manifold. Take the t out,blank the pipe that goes to the pcv on the inlet manifold,and take the inlet pipe to the catch can. If you look at my profile,i've got the same elbow your fitting.
I haven't fitted a catch can,just fitted filters to to cam covers and crank breather,been like this for 4 months,no oil leaks from the filters at all!!

Can you explain what the pcv is for and how it works?

Fitted the pipe today and run new breather lines, will have to remove that T when i'm next under the bonnet.

It's a valve with a ball bearing in it that takes the breather gas's into the inlet manifold when off boost,it's closed when on boost. Some people leave it,but i think it's better to remove.

Which of those pipes is venting the gas to atmosphere?

At the moment the bottle vents through the cap, but i am going to remove the cap and fit a large diameter hose to the chasis leg.

Would this be ok?

This is only a temporary measure until i can see how much oil is being expelled. Depending on the quantity of oil in the bottle i will buy a catch tank with a return to the sump.

Thing to think about is that the breather pipe should have the same combined cross section as the feeder pipes so that you are not creating pressure into the breathers as they will tend to breathe at differing times.

Look at the RCM catch tank for ideas on this. It is on their website.

Thanks for the info, thats the catch tank i was interested in.

The opening on my catch tank (volvic bottle) is more than big enough for temporary use.
