HELP NEEDED....

Hi folks,i just wondered if anyone can answer me a few questions????

firstly what should a turbo boost gauge read on tickover?

secondly does a turbo and actuator come as a pair? ( as in if you swap the turbo for a different one do you have to swap the actuator? )

I'll be happy with any help i can get,i'm trying not to have to take car to a garage and be ripped off and filled with lies so they can make some easy cash because subaru engines baffle me,lol

On tick over expect negative boost readings. Mine is around -0.55 bar.

Cheers,Well mine reads about 20 InHc (dunno what that is though, other side of zero is in PSI)

I reckon that's supposed to be InHg, which would be inches of Mercury (Hg chemical symbol). 20 InHg is 0.68 BAR or 9.8 PSI. If you mean -20 InHg then that's -0.68 BAR and -9.8 PSI.

Anyone else?

Agree......

The turbo and actuator are assembled and adjusted together, but can be adjusted or swapped usually without problem.

So does that mean if someone's swapped the turbo for a different one that the actuator can be adjusted to work with it? Is it an easy job to adjust the actuator without stripping everything off? Is it just a matter of changing the length of the bar in the middle so it pushes further?

What problems are you having?

m5pra 10 October 2008 05:39 PM

Its not really a problem as such,i took it to scoobyclinic for a rolling road n they said it was'nt boosting properly.(dunno how true that is as iv heard they say things are broke when they're not for unnecessary work)They told me a scoobyclinic boostee would sort it which i'd have to buy, have fitted and then car re-rollin roaded.

Well the car seems to pull ok and to me it seems to have boost, but i fitted a boost gauge to see for myself what was happening. That shows that on tickover its -20 as i previously said and when driving it goes up past 0 and most iv seen is about 15 PSI.

Another thing about scoobyclinic is their mechanic said it had got the wrong turbo on after a quick glance in engine bay.(i cant even see the turbo because theirs a black steel thing over it that goes up to the vent on the bonnet)Iv asked previous owner and he doesnt know,he did say someone had told him actuator was wrong thou.

I just dont want to be ripped off and have to pay for things it dont really need, scooby ownership is expensive enough without that.lol

just take the car to a reputable subaru specialist for them to inspect, you wil not be rip off :)

I would say that if your getting 15psi of boost, no smoke and no unusual turbo noises then its fine.
As for the actuator as long as it opens the wastegate then your ok, does it ever hit the fuel cut and does the boost come on quite quickly?

Theirs no smoke or noises i would class as bad,the turbo's just got a bit of a whisle to it when ya give it a footfull.I dont think its ever hit the fuel cut,(never felt anything thats felt like that anyway.)It revs well all way up and is fairly smooth.(i dont over rev it thou)

burbling1 10 October 2008 07:26 PM

When on full boost does it stay at the same boost +/- 1/2 psi?
As for using a different actuator I run my Td05 on a Td04 actuator.
