Getting an old license plate back?

I very stupidly part exchanged a car years ago with my private plate on it, I have checked where I can and it does not seem to be in use any more.

Has anyone got any idea if it's possible to get it back, and if so where to go?

The plate is M18 RKC

Don't think its possible. Once the MOT expires that's it. DVLA

The plate belongs with the car, you have no chance at all: sorry.

as gc8 says, plate belongs with the car - unless the car can be mot'd so that you can then transfer the plate off the vehicle and onto another, you're stuffed.

i searched a few years back for a plate my dad had on a shogun he sold. TG0 476 - i found the second owner of the car and then the third, but he said he drove the car until it fell apart and sold it to a scrapyard with the plate still on it. no chance of getting that back!

i think once plates go out of use and the vehicles which they were on are destroyed, the plate can go back into the system over time. there may therefore a chance that if the plate you're looking for is out of use and the vehicle has been destroyed, that the plate could come back into use - however, this is not likely within a short period of time - check again in 20 years!

I did the same when I sold my car. Agreed with the buyer we'd sort the plate out after. He went back on his word and I lost my plate.

Little pr!ck came on here a while ago trying to sell another car so I had great pleasure publicly giving him sh!t :D

That's no good news :(

Oh well worth an ask.

You dont ever 'own' a registration number, hence you have no claim to it after the vehicle has passed from your possession...
