Import Duty

Can anyone help me with a link to import duty rates, the HMRC site is mind boggling, i've managed to find before but no look today. It must be the most confusing site ever!!

I'm sure imports rate are 10% duty and 17.5% VAT of full delivered price.

mamoon2 07 October 2008 10:35 AM

Seem to remember different products had different duties. I.e toys had 0%

The Chief 07 October 2008 10:40 AM

It is different dependent on what and where you buy from. i.e. China

stevebt 07 October 2008 10:41 AM

I only think the difference on duty is if its below a certain price or if it is normally a non taxable item as say baby stuff etc

The Chief 07 October 2008 10:43 AM

It really depends on what it is - it can differ quite a bit.

I've been importing from China for over 10 years, and its still a minefield.

It all depends on what you are importing, if its top secret then PM me and i can put you in touch with a very good company that can sort all the logistics, customs, and tell you the current rate of duty.

We've dealt with them from the off.

Ring HMC&E, its the only way. Import duty rates are all described in The Tarif but its thre biggest series books youve ever seen (there are thousands of different rates)! Therell be a copy of them at your local main library, but calling is easier.
