What gadgets to buy in the US?

I'm off to the states soon and was wondering if there are any must have gadgets that are worth buying (and reasonably sized) where I can take advantage of the 'lets screw the UK' with pricing, you know where something in the states costs 500 dollars and over here the same item is 500 pounds

any suggestions?

cheers

If you want an iPod Touch then the 32GB model costs $399 (probably plus tax though) which equates to about £227, and the normal UK price is £289, so that's a bit of a saving.

Things like Digital Cameras might be another thing worth looking at. I think the new Cannon 50D is one of the examples you give when it's a dollar = pound conversion, which is a rip off. I seem to recall people saying that for the UK price you could include the price of a flight to the US to pick one up.

There could be deals on PSP's, Nintendo DS's and things like that.

DVD's and CD's tend to be somewhat cheaper over here too, make sure your DVD play will handle Region 1 encoded DVD's though.

My mum went to New York Xmas shopping last year, and picked me up some Police shades, apparently they were much cheaper there.

Are e-book readers any cheaper? :)

Bluray player, if you are into that. Make sure its multiregional.
I'd look at a couple of Nintendo Wii's, as I'm sure they would probably be in demand this Chrimbo.

A Wii isn't exactly luggage friendly and there's no shortage of them any more AFAIK.

I picked up a new Leatherman Charge TTi in New York last November. Worked out better than half price when compared to proper UK retailers. Also got an extra pair of running shoes from the Nike store, they were about 40% cheaper. It was 2.1 $ to the £ back then though.

B&H is worth visiting, just to see the amout of kit they have and the stock delivery system. I picked up a few bits in there like li-ion camera batteries as they worked out as a good price.

Pound has slid against the Dollar again today, so you'll need to shop carefully. Plus also factor in the possibility of being stopped at customs coming back in the UK, sorry, I mean declaring your goodies like a good citizen.

Clothes and trainers seem to be the best buy. My wifes into all these rock and republic type jeans that cost £200 + here you can get them for under half price in the US.
