I see what your getting at now, mine is actually sealed behind the lights where you mentioned with non-setting sealant and still water found its way in, it doesn't now Ive put a rubber seal on.

But did you remove them and replace the sealant? The stuff Subaru used isn't that good, and was somewhat randomly applied.
This is the best stuff:http://www.caravan-components.co.uk/...-in-400ml-Tube Made to seal the seams of caravans and where the awning rail is screwed to the sides. |
Nothing could be done

I've got a MY99 with water getting in the boot too. I thought I'd sealed it ages ago, but it's just as wet as ever when it rains heavy. More on the passenger side, but the carpet's soaking it up and me boot smells like a tent now.

An update...
If you are getting water ingress because of old, knackered sealant for the rear light clusters -- or have had new clusters put in -- then forget new sealant. ICP and RCM now do modern day neoprene seals. I had a new OSR cluster fitted using one and it seems to be working fine. Obviously, the 'art' is to scape off the existing sealant as best you can, and cleaning up that area for a perfect seal. The two seals in the kit are 'handed', but if you flip them over, then either seal can be used for either cluster. Obviously. |

No water ingress whatsoever!!! |
