AV query, for the anoraks !

Morning all !

What do you make of this ?

Yamaha RX-N600D - Digital Direct

How far behind all the latest digital audio encoding systems is this, looking to hook up to a Sony Blu-Ray.

Looks a bargain to me, fancy the networking capability !

TIA

Has none of the new HD audio formats so behind the times in terms of BluRay. Have a look at THIS for an awesome up to date AV amp at a bargain price (RRP £1000) or THIS as a compromise for saving a few bob. There's probably a couple of cheaper options with the new formats, but the Yam and Onkyo are stunning for the cash. I've just go tthe Yam, but not wired it up yet whilst I'm decorating.

Cheers Dave,

was going for the RX-V3800.... for the networking option, but my room isn't that large (sadly), and it seems a touch of overkill. Only using the classic KEF "eggs" with a decent centre speaker and two subs, so a black Onkyo would do nicely.

Thanks for the input !

I believe the main benefit over the 1800 is the media networking, so if you don't need that then save yourself 200+. It does have slightly better amplifiers, but the rest of your system would need to be very good to fully appreciate the difference.

I have 506 too, its awesome, demo it first, my first unit had a bad transformer hum :)

the replacement is stunning,

all my stuff connects no probs

all connect without any input switching, a big bonus :thumb: & you can run an Ipod from the front, or from the rear via a dedicated dock

Richer sounds, are knocking out silver 505's for £110 (no hdmi)

the 506 is £249

I would like networking (gimmick ?) but it's also down to the TV and my Sony Blu-Ray player needing HDMI, etc.

Will see how much is left after I collect my car with it's shinny new wheel bearing in the morning....

Thanks guys,

DunxC

The 1800 has 4 HDMI 'in' with 1 'out', as well as loads of component, s-video, ana/digi audio etc.

Apart from an ethernet port bottom left, looks similar to me :wonder:
