as above, how full should the header tank be?

and i took it for a burn, quite hard, got to halfords to get some paint, open the bonnet, and steam / smoke was coming from round the turbo area ish, below where that turbo heatshield i think it is sits.

driven it hard before and got a funny smell, i now see its probably the same thing.

car hadnt been driven much this year before i bought it a couple of weeks ago. its a 95 wrx import 62 k

any ideas what smoking could be, and should i be worried, cause ill be gutted if its terminal, im in process of selling other car

My header tank is about 3/4 full.
I would check the pipework going to the turbo.

as in metal / exhaust pipework?

was thinking of getting tubular header, and or decatted up pipe.

are these the pipes your talking about? cause i might replace them in next few weeks. but if so, might do it sooner, and see if it cures it

sorry the pipework that is on the turbo or connected to it not the exhaust pipework.
If you remove the headers and downpipe (i thinks thats what you mean as the up pipe doesn't have a cat in it on the classics) then you can get a better view.

Some confusion going on here?

myblackwrx along with probably everyone else, thought you were refering to the metal coolant header tank, one hose from which, feeds the turbo with coolant.
Are you talking about this or the exhaust manifold (headers - dreadful Americanism!)

hi, yea should have had two seperate threads, i was talking about both!

first the header tank.. when i openend it after i saw the smoke coimnbg off i lost bit in spray to the pressure(shouldnt have opened it) then i wondered how full it should be, as there no lines on the outside like the vauxhalls i used to have.

Then the smoke that was coming off... got me worried. there are pipes going to the turbo then.. are they plastic? could be them.. if you take the air box off does it give you a better look? and should there be a small heatshiled or anything protecting them? as mine could have been left off by last mechanic when he took the box out
