Header question

newbie questions here - what is the difference between equal and unequal headers, and what is standard??

Thanks :thumb:

Standard is unequal, hence the burble.Unequal means the two branches that go from the up pipe to each head are different lengths, equal are...um...equal!

O/E cast headers are unequal in length.
Lots of people refer to equal length headers which are not in fact equal length but are tubular. Tubular can be equal length but are more often unequal.
Another misconception is that tubular headers will automatically result in more power.

so if unequal give you the burble, I presume that equal dont give you the burble? which is more powerful etc ??

Unequal tubular headers can reduce the burble as these have different header lengths to the O/E items. A proper equal length sounds more like a high power Jap Super Bike.
I don't believe there is much difference in power produced but some people claim the equal length is better. I have never seen anything to substantiate that or warrant the expense of genuinely equal length headers. What is far more important is selecting the right headers for the particular application.

I'd like to hear that :thumb:

I was lead to believe that true equal length headers are easier to extract power as they are easier to map, compared to un-equal.

But maybe JGM will have his say in passing...

P.S. Spool seems worse now mine are fitted, but it isn't re-re-mapped yet !

I have a set of gt spec headers. When i first fitted them,i must admit the spool did seem to drop off,and didn't feel as quick. I then had the ESL Live fitted and mapped at Zen,and wow what a difference!! To be honest,i've no idea wether they hepled or not,and if the standard headers would have been as good, especially ported.Im running 1.35 bar.
What i can say is they sound awsome!
