Any one got any ideas on what's causing this?

After driving the car for a while and then coming to stop at a roundabout or junction, the revs will either drop to zero and stall the car or the rev counter will just fluctuate around the 400-800 revs markers.

MAF sensor's gone.

Cheers mega_stream!

Do you know if the MAF sensor is covered by the Warranty?

mega_stream 10 February 2002 07:20 PM

Yup!:D I had mine done last year, exactly the same problem. Although they had in in 1st go and changed the idle control valve...drove it home, stopped at the lights it stalled! :(

Have you got a standard air filter in yours?
I got a ram-air filter panel in mine, which is going to be changed to an ITG asap.

Cheers

I have a similar problem on my MY99 Type-R. It has never stalled but sometimes (not always) goes a bit mental at idle. It dips to below 500 and peaks at 1000 rpm.

Mega_stream

How can you tell if your MAF sensor has gone as my car runs okay all the time?. Would it affect your fuel economy as mine is approx 19.4 mpg which I think is par for the course for my car.

Cheers guys,

Craig.

I just had the same problem in my MY99. My local dealer replaced the "Oxygen Sensor" and it cured the problem. the part was 95 quid plus fitting.

it is usually the maf sensor but just to chip in my cat caused the same thing. It broke down and the ecu couldn't work out the afr it hunted between stalling and 1000 rpm. Nightmare having to keep on the gas at every junction. Made it look like i was trying to rev it at every stop.

I had the same characteristics when my MAF sensor went on my MY99.

There weren't any error codes either! It is a warranty job.

My friend had exactly the same problems when his MY99 when his MAF went, and that was with a standard filter!!

Cheers for the replies guys,

I'm off to my local Subaru Dealer today to get it sorted. I was starting to look like a learner driver :), stalling it at junctions

Mark99,

I had the same problem it wouldn't settle when idling, & sometimes cut when coming up to lights etc. I took the MAF Sensor out (it's a MY95) & gently cleaned it with contact cleaner & a cotton bud. It was quite dirty. After that the idle settled & is fine. That a few months ago & I intend to check it every few months after the difference it made.

Regards

Johny

You should be able to find some ECU error codes, for this.

The other possiblities are Fuel filter needs replacing and injectors need cleaning.

The other problem could be the O2 sensor.

Check out my site to find more info about this
