Hi,

I need to buy a 'cheap' run-around for the other half. I have a budget of about 10k and would like something which is economical, reliable, reasonably fast, cheap to maintain, insure and have 5 doors.

The only car I can think about is the Civic VTI. Any more suggestions?

Cheers

Jay

I had a 1.8 5dr VTi for 3yrs prior to the Scooby. Very well built, reliable, excellent handling and performance, screamer of an engine!

Definately worth taking for a test drive although the insurance might be similar to the Scooby.

Yeah, I had a Civic 5dr (1.8VTi) a couple of years ago. Build quality, reliability etc are first rate - gp14 (I think)... Engine has to be worked prettty hard though & it takes quite a bit getting used to. The VTEC moment doesnt come in so suddenly like the Integra or the 1.6 Vti (3dr). Worth a look, but dont expect oodles of torque like the impreza :-)

Bro has just bought a 5 door 1.8 Civic V Tec, great car. Handling is superb and it keeps on Revving http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif

Had one prior to my Teg, and dont have a bad thing to say about it.
Mines still for sale at Whitehouse Honda (www.whitehousehonda.co.uk), in Bexleyheath, and it was the S derivative, special mats, more extensive body kit, aluminium gear nob wadda wadda wadda, I looked after it too (honest http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/smile.gif), never revved above 3000RPM until warm. Edit: Sold!! hope it found a nice home.
Otherwise, its a good car, good performance, and sounds brilliant.

Thanks for your views.

It looks like the Civic gets the thumbs up then.

What about the Mazda 323 V6? Are there any other cars, which are similiar to the Civic?

Jay, thats bad timing as I've just quit as GSM at Honda In Berks (not far from you). Nice cars with good build quality, but as the othere guys have said the v-tec needs some revving to hear it growl properly http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/smile.gif!!

Take one for a test drive and see........
