had a bit of a fright yesterday - need some urgent help

Picked my car up yesterday...... after it being on hols for a while.......

then went and picked up a complete new Air-con system for it.......

coming off a roundabout, up the slip road to the M4........ 'accellerating' away from the roundabout......... there was an ALMIGHTY (and MEAN Almighty) BANG !! from under the bonnet ( I thought someone had let a 12 gauge go in the passenger seat) and Smoke EVERYWHERE............

It came up through the turbo vent on the bonnet....... through the air vents into the cabin......... and there was a tunnel of smoke behind me............

my heart has restarted !!

the connection on the bottom of the intercooler blew aswell...... but didn't realise this till I'd pulled off and rejoined the traffic.....

i need to get some spot welds on the end of the ally pipe to prevent it happening !!

Someone has suggested somehting like this Bead Form I (F660) - Engine - Frost Auto Restoration Techniques rather that the spot welds

Is there anyone Local that can or knows someone that can do something like this at short notice? i.e. before Saturday (Rally Day)

Thanks in advance

Phil

Some of us still remember your history :freak3: we don't want to be going down there again !!

Ally welding or whatever the tech term is seems to be a specialist trade that until someone asks you no one seems tro know much about :wonder: what about that guy working over at interpro in Thornbury ? thinking on it he was doing stainless stuff I wonder he he can do ally to ?

That was a speedy repair :D 6 hours from the first question to the end result and a small chain of peeps :lol1: even by our standards this has to be some kind of a record :smug:

It might be worth changing the clamps to murray ones, I had the same problem a couple of months back and resoloved this by replacing the hose with a longer one and replacing the clamps with Murray ones, They garrantee not to blow off!!!!

Best I enjoy the downtime now with a cold one..... or 2.... or 3.................

I'd put 2 jubilee clips on the pipework to make sure it wouldn't happen in the intrim....

the one chap had a hard enough time getting them off and said.... it don't need welding the way tyou've done them !!!

LOL
