Heeelp, have i broken third gear???
 

Hi all, yesterday i came off the roundabout in my 95 WRX manual, slipped it into third & floored it...as i reached about 5000rpm the drive disappeared & was replaced by a grating sound (the sound you get when you think youve engaged a gear but havent!) All the other gears are working but the grating noise is with them all except reverse? Can anyone shed any light on the matter please? Im planning on fixing rather than replacing btw.

Sounds like you have lunched 3rd. Probably be cheaper to replace with a used box, new gearsets will be mega bucks. Meanwhile you have a load of swarf eating the other gears up.

BTW- I have perfect STi 4 box & rear diff that I am removing this week to upgrade to a 6 speed.
