Juddering when pulling away
I have a UK MY99 turbo 2000 and when I'm pulling away with between 800 and 1500 RPM I'm getting a lot of juddering, it can be quite violent!
If you use over 1500RPM to pull away there is no juddering. Anyone have any ideas why :wonder: |
Its the rather common clutch judder, its a standard feature of MY99/00 cars, a couple of good "quick starts" should cure it for a while, but its down to the material in the clutch I believe.

Flywheel has warped, it needs to be skimmed to cure this.
|
my MY00 classic did this as well. sometimes it would be fine and at other times it would judder REAL bad.
As you say if you raise the revs the problem goes away. I used to have to launch it just to roll forward 3 feet, felt like a right idiot. |
Mine does it from cold.
I just slip the clutch a little and give it more revs. How many miles has yours done and what bhp u running? |
get an API lightweight flywheel & exedy clutch, no judder or clutch slip:thumb:
|
The 'take-up' judder will be down to the flywheel face having heat spots and possibly heat cracks upon it. By fitting a new flywheel and o/e specification clutch the clutch judder will be eliminated.

Nothing wrong with it m8.
Standard subaru clutch judder. Mines done 20k less and does it. Fit an uprated or standard clutch. |
i fitted an exedy uprated organic clutch as my oem clutch was slipping. Absolutely no judder before, on the new clutch i have to give about 3000 revs just to pull away with out judder and also have terrible judder coming down to 3rd and 2nd. Its also making a horrible whining noise when reversing on hills and a lovely burnt clutch smell. I didnt get the flywheel replaced or skimmed what do you guys think

Speak to David at API & get one of his lightented flywheels. I changed mine about 6k ago & have had no judder whatsoever!

No-one who supplies a clutch will support a warranty on the clutch, if the flywheel is not - either skimmed true, or replaced one way or another.
Subarus do not judder when the clutch replacement is done properly and any that do judder are usually worn out or have been overheated on a track day and blistered either the pressure plate pad or the flywheel surface. Get it checked over by someone who knows what they are doing and if it needs a clutch change then make sure the flywhel is done at the same timne. Call if l can help. Got the same problem on a 1995 classic, has 45k on the clock (new engine last year)
Had it a couple of months and as of this morning it started to judder after around about 20min's of driving it started to judder on pull off, between 1500rpm and 2000rpm. If the clutch needs replacing how much are they + fitting and how much is the flywheel + fitting? |
