Mapping / Rolling Road
OK this may sound a dumb question but here goes
when you have a re-map done does it need to be done using a rolling road (obviously you get a before and after etc with a rolling road) I,m curious coz it seems that some mappers do "house Calls" (might be totally misguided)-- and I dont have a rolling road at my house:) James |
Simon at Jolly Green Monster will travel and he told me that the remap can be done on a RR or just the road - even using a RR, he finsihes off on the road. I chose the RR just because I wanted to know what the mods I had made actually produced - it is often referred to on SN as "pub talk" values :)

Your car will be used on the road, so it should have a map that reflects road conditions. The use of rollers to set basic parameters then finalising on the road is, arguably, the best method. The most respected mappers will use the road.

Road is far better for real would conditions, the RR can not intake the right amount of air at the right time. All you have is a fan a big fan but just a fan.

My car exhibited symptoms on the rollers that it never does on the road !
I would say they are great for BIG re-maps, but less necessary for an evolutionary update. IMHO DunxC |
As said RR is not essential.. it is nice for higher power stuff and nice for customer to see numbers but not essential. The EcuTek software has road dyno so you can get numbers from that.
as to airflow differences etc.. they are sorted out on the road after.. Simon |
I think that road mapping is best. It does make thinks a little extreme though for the driver and the mapper when doing 4th and 5th gear full throttle runs. Especially with big power. Imagine how fast you would be going flat in 4th or almost flat in 5th with 400+ BHP and Torque.
Anyway, best maps I have had came from road mapping. Most recent were by Chevron motorsport. It changed the cars characteristics completely, making it much better to drive properly. |
so to summarize
you do all the mods you are going to do try and synch this with a mapping session, presumably they can come to you (if you cant, drive on no boost till you get it mapped) job done Approx how long does it take? does the cost (approx £500/600) include any parts -- or just time and knowledge from the mapper |
Your assumptions are on track - you're probably ready to talk with a mapper now to get down to the detail which is what I did when I was at the point you are at now. There are many good mappers referenced on SN - Simon at JGM did mine and he always gets great reviews :)
