engine light on now what could it be??

hi guys i have posted in another section as i now live in s.wales near caerphilly.. i bought an 53 plate wrx wagon with ppp recently and everything seemed fine for 8 days but one morning nearly 2 weeks ago was on way home after commute and light came on and car sounded rough,so pulled over onto hard shoulder just after toll severn bridge and got car on a lowloader as a precaution.. there didnt seem to be any coolant loss/ smoke/ pops bangs or overheating but the car wont run and i havent started it now for a while until it is checked at my home.. a fellow scooby net member has kindly offered his assistance when in my area but havent seen him yet,in meantime could anyone diagnose what they think it may be??? or is it a big can of worms!!!:freak3: cheers in advance m.j:notworthy it sounds like its running on 3 cyls and some belt screech noise....

from memory similar but not as bad i would say , havent started it since--was hoping just a belt problem... think i am right to have had it low loaded though home will only start it for the benefit of a person in the know now.
if it turns out to be bottom end damage however surely its better to swap engines??? from a reputable source? think rebuilds often read horror stories and £costly£.. wish me luck folks

bottom end gone....

many thanks to clark today aka patrolman a top bloke:thumb:
he confirmed the bottom end has gone:brickwall
checked faults on info meter plug in and was showing crank sensor...
checked belt and all was intact needed to fire up the battery as had discharged and fired it up to reveal the noise which said it all:(
so at least our suspicions are confirmed now and will decide best plan of ction in due course..
clark i owe you a drink mate hope to see you again under better circumstances:thumb:

Damit m8 , if i were put in this position a 2.5 bottom end would be the way forward.

yes you are the 2nd to say this, will look into options and decide the best plan of action.
