Car cleaning Tips

not sure of the best section for this!
as per other post, I've just bought a large 4x4, which is seriously dirty.
I've looked at a valet, but TBH we've wiped ourselves out buying it as a second car and could do with not paying £80+.

The problem is mainly the carpets and seats. I have a carpet shampooer, but I'm not sure it's ideal. What the best wat to clean cloth upholstry?

Also, what about the plastics? of the shelf stuff just seems to coat it in silicon rather than cleaning it.

cheers

It's such a shame there's no Car Care forum on here...what's that, there is one?!

Or try A world for detailers...

I got some Turtle wax matt dash stuff from hafrauds, seems very good...got the crap off my van dashboard and doens't leave any residue or shine. I used an ordinary microfibre towel thing. Haven't needed to use a carpet shampoo yet :)

As long as the shampooing machine you have has got a strong suction mode to pull all the liquid out of the fabric after cleaning then it should be fine; the key thing with car fabrics is not to leave them wet, otherwise mildew quickly sets in - not pleasant. For cleaning all hard interior surfaces, an all purpose interior cleaner would be ideal - see here for our favoured product that can be diluted to different strengths depending on the gime level encountered...

thanks
managed to get the worst out of the carpets with shampoo and 4 buckets of water.
Flippin dog-owning horsey types, no respect for their cars!
