do arp head studs need retorquing?
 
as above does anybody know if these need retorquing many thanks:brickwall

I don't remember re-toqueing them on my 2.5,pretty sure of that. You should have got an installation destructions with them,along with the moly grease.

No, not necessary.. tend to check and double check right up to the point before fitting the cam covers.. usually find last job of the night is to torque heads.. then in the morning double check them before fitting the rocker covers.

but never had the need to pull engine remove rocker cover and retorque them.

Easier on other engines.. but on the subaru engine it is too much work..

Yeah I was wondering about that, it would be a major pain in the arse to have to retorque them after fitting the engine!

what a good question
i installed mine as per the instructions
and lo and behold a few months later head gasket failure
when i stripped it down i found the middle bottom studs had become loose in the block
on re assembly i tightened em in the block and used loctite studlock on the block threads
yes im a mech engineer n the instructions which came with mine was wrong

The very good advice I had was to NOT do them up 'hand tight' as per the instructions but to actually do them up as tight as you can with a decent size allen bit.

Not as tight as you can. But you do just nip them up with an allen key. Which is obviously more than hand tight but no whre near as tight as you can.

I then torque the heads down in steps of 20ft/lbs
so 20, 40 60 then a final one of 85. I leave these over night then just go over them again at 85ft/lbs.

Everytime I've taken an engine apart after doing this, they've never been loose.
