AVG virus software issue

I am unable to up date this software because of an error message:
Invalid update control CTF file
How can I resolve this ?

I had something similar earlier in the week. I re-ran the installer and selected the option to repair. Then rebooted and ran the updater and it was OK.

Will either of these run OK on 64 bit Vista ?

Iain Young 07 September 2008 10:14 PM

Nod32 runs fine on 64bit Vista. AVG doesn't work properly on anything ;)

avg makes your pc sooo slooow, took mine of and it was like a new pc!

pimmo2000 08 September 2008 10:54 AM

lol AVG is fine .. works on 64 bit without any issues

...apart from the fact that it is dog slow, can easily screw up your registry, and misses loads of viruses of course :)

Never caused me a single issue .. maybe its you and your dodgy sites :lol1:

Nope, I've never been infected (I use Nod32). I have had to rescue more than a few customer / relative / friends machines however that have been riddled with viruses, and all had the most up to date version of avg installed. It's not a good piece of software at all, and misses some quite nasty stuff...

You pay what you get for :)

(I'm sure tha captain of the Titanic was equally sure of himself as you pimmo. After all, he'd been sailing the thing for ages without it sinking once.... ;))

We do this everytime someone mentions AVG ...

:D

I've seen a lot of titanics of the AVG variety sink though. Never seen a Nod32 titanic sink ;)

must admit I did used to be a fan of avg, thought it was good with regular updates etc. Its only when I did an online virus check and found a few viruses/trojans that I though otherwise. I use bitdefender now, has decent reviews and is fairly cheap as well

NOD32 for me, For what it costs its not even worth arguing about ;)

Use Avast, light install and works fine + free.
