Mondeo Take 2
So flush with the success of finally moving on my late fathers ST220, I have now turned my attention to his other car.
Seems it'll be even more of a problem! Its a R Reg 2.5L V6 Mondeo Ghia with 170k on the clock. So a ST24 without all the plastic really. Sadly it was the first thing to go by the wayside as his health declined so its currently Sorn'ed and out of MOT. It starts, it runs, and well thats about where the good points end as you may well imagine. Having had a good hunt round on ebay there are a few for sale but looking in completed listings I cannot find a single one thats sold... Dog old car, uses more fuel then the Arc Royal, Costs lots to insure and its really not that fast! Who wants one... No one.... So what do I do?? Current options... 1) MOT + 6 Months tax, hope to god it sells before the tax runs out... 2) MOT Dump at auction either ebay or car auction 3) Dump at auction as is 4) Scrap... take money and run... 5) Break for parts Suggestions / thoughts / advice and swopsies for yellow lego bricks accepted. |
tax it and flog it
|
weigh it in.. should get a bit with price of scrap and the fact it rivals the titanic for boat like abilitys and weight.
|
£150 a ton the other week sooo £200 ish.
|
ebay it start it at a pound, you may be suprised, i have been in the past :)
|
Agree, think you just stick it on ebay as is and start at £100.
If it doesn't make more than scrap then not much lost |
Scrap it, it will have a cat (maybe 2 for a v6 ?) on so you will get more.
Oh, and you avoid the Ebay agro of people not turning up or saying it wasnt what they thought.... |
IMO give the old dog a second chance - take a gamble and chuck it in for an MOT - Good chance it will pass. If It does, give it a wash and hoover and any car with a full years ticket has to be easy worth £250-£400.
|
Yer selling things on ebay is fine, until you come to cars and associated stuff, at which point all the to$$ers seem to cue up to make your life hard.
At least this is my experience. Hum, what to do.... |

Might use the MOT test to make my mind up, if it fails horridly then scrap, if not then might try a punt on ebay with a comically worded no illusions listing. |

Well well, I have a nice red failure ticket...
Headlights not adjusted (near side too low) exhaust blowing, knew that, and emissions slightly over, probably due to the exhaust, which having looked at it on the ramp is looking very frilly in places. So I have some redex just cos, sort headlight and have a look at the zorst and we have a winner. Looks like I wont be bored this week then :-) |

Feel free to bring it round mine for a laugh on my driveway. I'm still an unemployed bum and always willing to offer no help and advice:lol1:

Arr a back seat repair man, whats your brews like? :Suspiciou
Pretty good actually :norty: |
Well having spent most of the night on the garage floor last night I have decided that its not worth fixing.
Middle section is cracked round the hanger but it would need to come off to attempt a weld and I don't fancy my chances with the bolts on the cat, back section is almost see through in one place, and really needs a vast amount of tape or ideally replacing. There sounds to be a crack in the front manifold, but to find out means removing the power steering cooler, air con radiator and radiator, then cutting off the heat shielding, and all the bolts are mostly missing the flats and both rads look ready to drop to bits when touched. So even if I managed to carry out the repairs for no material costs its going to be a lot of time and pain and I just don't think its worth it given the price of scrap. So its off to car heaven at the weekend. |

Yer tempting, but I am all car'd out at the mo,
Kit car has has a full engine rebuild this year and some other work Golf has had, disks pads all round and a cambelt ST220 prep and sale V6 Ghia - currently in progress mum wants me to replace her car, so that's buy and sell and I have not touched my project car what with the above and the fact I have been reconditioning ride on lawnmowers and farm equipment seemingly all year... I work in IT dam it, this car thing was meant to be a hobby!! Hence the "its only likely to make me £50 more if fixed I just want rid" attitude. :-) |
How about a nice big final burnout, filmed for posterity and bunged on YouTube, then call the scrap man, cant let it go with intact tyres !
|
Scrapped this morning for £140
better then a kick in the teeth.... doubt I would have made twice that if it was MOT'd as it still had loads wrong with it, just was not worth the effort. Still another one sorted. |
