Mugen RR on 5th Gear Tonight!!!

Mugen RR is tested on 5th Gear tonight against an S2000, should be goos

rb5_336 02 September 2008 12:04 AM

hmmm what a car!

Luminous 02 September 2008 08:51 AM

Hmmm, not my kind of thing. I know these fast fwd cars are really capable, but there is just something missing. I really wish manufacturers would offer us more rwd drive cars to choose from.

I'd take the S2000 any day over the RR. I don't car that the RR is faster around a handling track.

Scoobychick 02 September 2008 08:54 AM

What was that stupid piece about where they turned the Citroen Berlingo into an ice cream van? :cuckoo:

PeteBrant 02 September 2008 08:56 AM

I haven't seen it yet, I have it sky plussed.

I have to watch that programme through gritted teeth mind, because pictures of Tom Ford and Tim Shaw should replace any written description of the word "****" in the dictionary.

They are trying to be like Top Gear but it just doesn't work and seems sad and desperate. Ironically if TG had done that piece it would probably be hilarious.

rb5_336 02 September 2008 10:43 AM

I think this episode (apart from the ice cream van) was better than anything TG have put on for many years.

I think the new look works.

f1_fan 02 September 2008 11:09 AM

The programme is dreadful, how anyone can say it is better than TG is beyond me. I feel almost embarrassed for the presenters as they are all trying way too hard.

As for the Mugen RR well from the 60 seconds they spent on it it looks pretty amazing. Would love a drive in one to see what it feels like. I have an S2000 and was actually quite pleased to see a focused hatchback beating it, means the money has gone into the engineering rather than luxury interiors etc. Now they need to bring it to the UK market!

what would scooby do 02 September 2008 12:00 PM

Same old Honda nonsense - gutless engines and way too hard a ride for the road. If you're not going 100% you'll get overtaken by Saab diesels :lol1:

Did you notice how the "plastic" seat was wobbling and twisting around in the civic??

I dont get the Honda thing, a CTR had a go at me a few weeks back, load of noise and fury but didnt seem very fast, it did sound nice, will give it that.

.....and when you are trying??

Dave1980 02 September 2008 01:29 PM

5th gear is better than it was but still not a patch on top gear imo.

they do have some interesting stuff on there, i liked the bit about the car tax changes as i am looking to change the fun car for something different and found that informative.

i think they maybe have tried a bit too much to be like top gear this time but that aside its not bad.

shame about the honda rr and the s2000 bit. i think they should spend more time reviewing them rather than just ragging it round a track and thats it.

got a test drive in an s2000 the weekend so rwd would be my choice anyday.

D.O.M 02 September 2008 03:18 PM

Saw this.
I liked it :D

A civic was my first car... will always have a place in my heart LOL

lozgti 02 September 2008 03:26 PM

What was it? A 5 door hatch or a saloon?

I couldn't even think of buying that car.

3 door Civic Type R hatch looks ok......That looked like your grandparents car.Just needed a tartan rug on the parcel shelf. Fast or not

drb5 02 September 2008 03:28 PM

Anyone else noticed Tom Ford writes for Top Gear magazine?

:D

AndyC_772 02 September 2008 03:48 PM

Did anyone else think the Mugen looks a bit like the new scooby from the front?

Probably due to the lack of torque and linear power delivery.

f1_fan 02 September 2008 05:27 PM

LOL at all the usual lack of torque and power commentary that rears its head whenever Hondas are discussed

If you accept VTECs for what they are they are fine. Sure they ain't going to be as powerful or as good as our beloved modded Scoobs, but hey what is? ;) :D :D

LG John 02 September 2008 06:15 PM

And the lack of torque seldom makes a difference or causes a problem when you are happy to press on. I've had an S2000 and two classic scoobies with 275 and 315bhp respectively.

I think what I find so amusing in life is the sheer number of so-called petrolheads that wax lyrical about "torque, torque, torque" and how it's the be all and end all of all thing fast. Yet, if you suggest they buy a 335d or such like they start on about revs and peak power, etc. You keyboard warriors can't have it all ways....so which is it to be?

hux309 02 September 2008 06:32 PM

Hp with bags of torque. ;)

wtf :cuckoo: I'm sorry but have u even seen all the TG episodes? How can u possibly think the above is beyond any rational thought for me. Did you not see the TG veyron episodes, or any of the other cross continent races?? Those alone are better than anything 5th gear have put together. Oh and how many major awards have TG won? Look it up, then compare that to 5th gears awards (i.e none) :)

A broad power band with heaps of torque throughout. Along with no turbo lag :)

Sadly my Impreza suffers from the turbo lag, and is often off boost when trying to enter a roundabout :( Too slow for second, but too fast for first...only thing that bugs me about my car.

I'd like to try one of those 335d to see what they sound like, and if they can rev enough. Otherwise its going to have to be another scoob, or a trip to the dark side

Yes all of them. In fact I never watch it live anymore, so I can fast forward the boring / stupid/ pointless / childish bits using sky+ afterwards, which is usually a good chunk of the program

I'm not saying all episodes are crap, i'm saying in most episodes there's too much crap, with the odd good bit in between

bioforger 02 September 2008 08:39 PM

Ok I get your point, maybe your sense of humour is different to most ppl then I guess :)

juggers 02 September 2008 09:32 PM

there a full review in the evo website and it laps bedford in the same time as an evo x. Very quick car .. on the way there and back to manchester it kept up with the S204 with ease.

you get beat by an Audi S3 'cos it's wet ;)

J4CKO 03 September 2008 11:59 AM

I think its easier to go from a N/A Vtec type thing to a turbo but not the other way round, I nearly bought a Clio 182 but it felt flat as a fart compared to my 150 bhp LPT Saab, I would have missed the turbo too much so bought another.

P1Fanatic 03 September 2008 12:08 PM

I watch both. 5th gear tends to have more car tests that joe public can relate too. TG is more about super cars and entertainment. I watch both and Id think most petrolheads would as the more fast cars on TV the better imho.

Liked the new chap doing the sofa stuff although seemed to think he was a bit of ladies man cuddling and kissing them all when doing the Car Tax Loopholes bit.

Cant say Id spend £30k on the RR tho and I like the standard Type R plus the seats looked awful.

Simon
