I think I already know the answer to this but will STi7 17" wheels fit my old shape turbo (MY00) or is the offset wrong?

(also posted in Wheels etc)

Can't answer the first question, although I suspect the answer is yes, but to answer Ian's question, 18" Prodrive wheels definitely will NOT fit the STi7. Very few wheels will, and as said Prodrive are finalising the new wheel which is ET46 IIRC. Ultimately it is wheel spoke shape that dictates clearance as much as offset and the STi wheel has very curved spokes that clear the Brembo calipers (just).

Wot's so special about the STi callipers then as I have the Brembo callipers from Scoobysport and they clear my 17" P1 wheels fine.

There are lots of different 4 pot Brembo calipers, and the STi ones are bigger than ScoobySport's. They are also on 330mm discs, against 305mm on the ScoobySport discs, which means the calipers are nearer the outside edge of the wheel rims, and the wheel spokes tend to thicken up here thus giving less clearance.

Hmm

Reading up about this on irritable-Club gave me this information, which given the source (Alex), I believe to be correct;

STi Brembo brakes use 326x30mm rotors and very specific 4-piston calipers with 40/46mm pistons.

The STi caliper overhangs 35.4mm and requires 190.6mm radial clearance.
That is an awesome amount of radial clearance, and is bigger than is available on 18" P1s (and presumably the OZs as well). :rolleyes:

I can't answer your question - but its an interesting one.

I heard that many wheels will not clear the new gold brembo calipers fitted to the new STI 7 due to their size.

This concerns me a little as I have 2 sets of wheels (17 OZ Super Ts, and 18" Prodrives) that I would love to keep if I ever traded my P1). It looks like there is a good chance they wouldn't fit :(

I'll watch this thread with interest.
