BHP Rating of STi Rods?
 

Does anybody know the BHP Rating of STi Rods? :wonder:

Classics all rods were the same 350bhp max to be on the safe side.

later models, bug eye onwards were stronger. I managed 452 bhp on a standard EJ257 Bottom end but that really was an expendible engine so I wouldn't advise any more than 400 on later stock rods.

did andy forrests old RA not run 440 bhp on a standard internalled CDB a few years back?

STi V3 Rods.

I was guessing about 400.

The STI rods in the classics were no different to UK turbo 2000 or wrx rods.

They are NOT renowned for their strength. I would not wish to run those rods at anywhere near that level.

Daz I ran a standard P1 bottom end at 1.6 bar and made 389bhp and 363 lbft of torque and ran it like that for 30000 miles no probs but did run it with 10% methanol.

The classic rods will not take more than 1.7bar boost but the newage rods are much better.

There's an exception to every rule :D My 2.5 was the same. Everyone said 400bhp no more, I ran mine at 450 for 7k Miles without issue. Obviously as some people take people's advice on here so I like to build in a margin of error in case of come backs :)

The main factor that comes into play at these levels (400 & above) is what the rev limit they are used to and for how long.

I still have standard rods in my EJ257 running over 400 of each, but is limited to 7K rpm.

Its not BHP that kills rods its torque and high reving.

I'm sure i've read that the standard rods shouldn't really go above 380lbft, i might be wrong.

I second that...it's the rpm and torque output you want to run them at that determines whether you break them, not a particular power or boost level. You can get high boost engines that run lowish power and low boost engines that run very high power.

My stock EJ257 was 452 bhp @ 1.4 bar and a 7500rpm rev limit.
