Ecutek ECU
 

I have a V plate (99/00) Classic impreza and have the opportunity of buying a 3 plug ECU with Ecutek software (the proggramme on the ECU is TSL 333 Ecutek)

What benefits will i have over the standard ECU as i was led to believe my existing ECU was mappable? Will i retain the MAF or does this eliminate the MAF?

In terms of cost for a map if i provide this ECU, what sort of bracket am i looking for?

Will the ECU fit my model vehicle? It came from a T Reg 99 classic.

You will retain the MAF. tsl map is generic from what i have read in the past, Your ecu can be reflashed as all v5 onwards.

I would expect you to pay for mapping time only if going back to TSL with that ecu. (few hundred pounds?)

If going somewhere else you will almost certianly be charged more. Check with the mapper.

Yes but you will need the other supporting moods required to give the 333 performance.

So am i right in thinking that my standard ECU is mappable so there is no real need to go for the Ecutek unit?

Current mods are:

Induction kit
Front Mount Intercooler
Walbro 255 fuel pump
either a VF or a TD05 will be replacing the current TD04
Ninja full stainless with decat pipes from turbo back

What did that tsl 333 ecu come from? if a JDM sti then i'm not so sure that it will fit as the plugs may be different. if you hadn't mentioned that your car was runing a TD04 i wouldnt have given it a second thought.

Your ecu can be flashed with a new map but its still done using ecutek software. Expect to pay £600ish + vat

ive been told the ECU has came from a t plate uk spec turbo 2000 same year and spec as mine.....

So to be honest, i may aswell keep the ECU i have and get that re-mapped as opposed to purchasing the other one. I was led to believe it was a simtek unit which is why i was so interested, but i guess not...lol

The car will be running the TD04 until i can take it to get mapped where the new turbo would go on aswell as the ECU.

If you have it mapped now you would be looking at around 280bhp enough to make you smile until you fit a larger turbo. If you do it now you will pay the license fee and any further mapping sessions will be a lot cheaper, as said around £200. The reason I suggested this is that it may take a while to get the turbo sorted. Who knows maybe 280bhp and 300+lb/ft of torque will keep you happy? Well, for a while anyway;)

Would it not be more sensible just to contact an Ecutek remapper such as Bob Rawle and check out the cost of remapping your existing ECU for your specific set up. bob.rawle@btinternet.com He is in Swindon and will also advise on anything else you should do in advance of mapping.
If you are not prepared to travel you could try Simon Roe/Jolly Green Monster who does travel to customers.
