Manual boost controller

Fitted a manual boost controller to my 96 uk turbo as instructions but engine hesitates at high revs.
Boost gauge still only shows 0.4 bar at maximum boost.
Is this correct and what pressure is it safe to run at without damage.

I had one on my 96 turbo, absolute bag of crap. Put your standard boost solenoid back on, much more responsive

0.4 bar is about half what it should be as standard?

What boost were you getting before you fitted the boost controller? Wrong spark plugs and faulty coil packs usually show up as problems when you attempt to increase boost. What spark plugs are you using?

my uk99 was running half boost and i took it to get codes checked turned out maf was gone and the sensors that had been fixed the codes where never wiped got new maf wiped codes, now running 0.8 bar sweet as a nut. only problem is ive got a knocking noise coming from just under the windscreen washer bottle is this just piston slap, this is when the car is warmed up not cold. no performance probs no smoke etc, and its only just audible and doesnt increase with throtle what can it be anyone?

BOOST PRESSURE

Showed the same 0.4 boost pressure before I fitted the valve.
Any ideas?
I have taken the feed for the gauge from the top of the manifold, should i take it from the intercooler input to see if there is a leak in the intercooler (no visible signs )
