Surround Sound Amplifiers

Now i have everything else sky hd and bluray , i wanting to add a surround sound, must have HDMI inputs and support True HD.

I've been looking at this one
ONKYO TXSR605 at Richer Sounds - HI-FI Separates, Home Cinema, Speakers, MP3 DVD Portables, Plasma LCD, etc.

Anyone know any others for sale that could be better spec that ive overlooked for a similar price.

Also will be needing speakers too so if theres any online stores that do packages?

Thanks

I've never used them but I look at the bundles on here now and again and they mostly appeal to me:
Hot deals from Creative Audio

I don't follow the "scene" so can't help with what's hot at the moment.

I have the 606, connected to the 2005 kef eggs in my sitting room.
Its immense :thumb:

Ant 28 August 2008 07:45 PM

sti-04!! 28 August 2008 08:00 PM

I think it might have been richer sounds, i'll go have a look.

The same shop is working with my builder at the moment to create my own HC.

2 mins i'll go check.

Ant 28 August 2008 08:04 PM

sti-04!! 28 August 2008 08:08 PM

Yeah i had a cinema & games room in my old farm. So going to recreate something similar in my new house. Builder is ripping out what was a granny flat. Downstairs will be a Cinema & upstairs will be a Games room with my own bar. :thumb:

You'll not regret

bigsinky 28 August 2008 10:59 PM

@ those with the HD sound, is the tru DTS/DTS Master et al much better than the old DD5.1 and dts soundtracks. could you give us your comments. i am looking to change my old sony 940 dts amp to the onkyo.

agreed b+w seems to be good stuff. i only have the old 600 range (2 x 603 floor standers and 2 x 602) with a cc6 centre, asw 500 sub finishes it off. really good sound.

phil_wrx 29 August 2008 03:31 AM

get it mate u wont be disapointed

Semper 29 August 2008 07:16 AM

I'm running Denon 3805, 3910 and mission MCubes. But can highly recommend the onkyo kit. Best mate is running it, awesome!

Ant 29 August 2008 08:12 AM

Glad I picked a good one then, just waiting on my
Cheque from insurance then I can go spending :)

scooby L 29 August 2008 09:14 AM

Onkyo is very good kit..top quality at a very reasonable cost...:thumb:

EddScott 29 August 2008 09:48 AM

I didn't want Onkyo because it looks pretty ugly. I was going to hold out until the new Denon 2309 came out but its only just arrived.

I bought this

Harman Kardon AVR 255 AV Receiver

Harmon / Kardon AVR255.

Good thread on AV forums on this Harman Kardon Avr 255 Out Now!!!!! - AVForums

To drive these

QUAD L-ITE 5.1 SPEAKER SYSTEM (ROSEWOOD) - available from Superfi UK Visit http://www.superfi.co.uk/index.cfm/page/moreinfo.cfm/product_id/2479 for details

Quad Lite 5.1 Rosewood

I had planned to sell the HK for the Denon but the GUI on the HK is very easy to use and the auto set up did a very good job in our living room. I prefer the look of the Denon but I'm happy with the HK.

what would scooby do 29 August 2008 10:20 AM

Yes the HD sound is a stunning improvement over DD:cool:

Kieran_Burns 29 August 2008 10:36 AM

I have the 605 and bought from Richer Sounds - stunning piece of kit. Setup is a breeze (supplied mic works out the room acoustics for you)

There is also a thread on AVForums for the best config. BluRay through the Onkyo is just fantastic as well. You won't be disappointed buying one.

When you hear true DTS (PS3 firmware upgrades are your friend) and the definition is so clear, I've honestly found myself ducking when some sounds go whizzing around the room... good fun! (Samsung 40" 1080P helps as well)

Oh, we have NO sound coming out of the TV - it ALWAYS come out of the Onkyo as the HDMI inputs are all tied into the amp and only one lead to the TV.

We have a Sky HD box, PS3 and Wii (component) connected in.

I have the Onkyo 875, I needed 3 HDMI inputs, but knew if I bought one with only 3 I would need 4 inputs a day later:Whatever_ . 875 has 4 inputs, it's awesome! :thumb:

JML Cable Tidy - SHOP.COM UK

Ant 29 August 2008 03:45 PM

I've got them for the tv cables up the wall, but I wanna totally hide them in the wall like channeling all the speaker cables around the room but we're only renting for a few years so I'll have my fun doing it then .

Thanks anyways

Kieran_Burns 29 August 2008 03:53 PM

well in which case - how about stick on trunking? I have used this up the stairs to hide cat 5 cables connecting the wireless downstairs to the switch upstairs

you can peel off later and a quick paint / polyfiller to hide any imperfections...

Just gone full HD myself and went with a Series 6 LCD from Samsung. Also replaced DVD with Blu-Ray player (Samsung BD-P1500) and the AV Receiver with the Samsung AV-R720. Despite what it says on RS site, the Samsung does do True HD DTS-HD etc. (see Samsung site for manuals).

Becuase it is all latest Samsung stuff, all three boxes talk between themselves so I button press to turn it all on start watching a Blu-Ray DVD.

Got whole lot hooked up a set of KEF Eggs (also from RS).

Whole system looks and sounds fantastic, way better than my old system (which included a £1k amp). V happy.

Cheers

Never bought an AV Receiver but starting to think I should to compliment my new tv (Pioneer 4280).

This may sound dumb but if I have the following:

Sky+ [RGB Scart]
PS3 [HDMI]
Wii [Component]

I guess I just plug them all into the receiver and then the receiver into the TV via the HDMI out as per this Pic:
