I think it was a 1750 Maxi (is that the right engine size??)
In a loverly orange colour - old 'P' reg from what I remember. |
Maserati Mistral (Red) on my way to primary school...
|

Capri 2.8 :D

One of those horrible Avenger things, bright green. Can't remember who made them now. It was replaced with a 1975 (I think)1.3 Morris Marina (Brown-nice).
Class cars. |
Doofus - firstly, congrats on becoming a daddy! Can't remember exactly but my old man used to have a Princess (lovely!!) and 1.6L Cortinas ....
Phil ;) |
Mk VII Jag :D
On the way down to pick up some wood for Guy Fawkes Night.. Sitting in the back, peering over the front seats.. Looking at the gorgeous lights on the dashboard and listening to "Swing Low..... Sweet Chariot " :D Richard |
With you on the Jag front Richard.
Dads 1974 Daimler v12 (i think) Later Iain |
A beige L-reg Chrysler/Hillman Avenger 1.3L Super... wow! The car was subsequently produced by Talbot (who also made the Tagora - remember that? Their Cortina-sized car?), who were bought out by Peugeot, who abandoned the name shortly afterwards...

My dad's Alpine A110 - standing on the front seat, holding onto the steering wheel.
|
Blue Spitfire, with exhaust tied on with string :) Not much room in the back.
|
Probably have to be a Ford (no) Cortina... in Midnight blue..
Funniest thing I remember about that car was watching my Dad push it out of the garage and then watching him chase it down the drive and accross the road and down the drive opposite and managing to grab the handbrake and stopping in about 6inchs from their front room window (floor to ceiling window) :) that would have been a help with neighbour hood relations... NOT! :) |
Vauxhall Victor 1800 in white with a red vinyl interior and bench seat up front.
I still reckon it's the best car my dad has ever owned! I'm 25 and it is definitely the first car I remember. After that he bought a morris 1100 with a racing steering wheel. He almost bought a purple capri mkI with bucket seats, but changed his mind. Shame! |
1969 Silver Capri MK1 1600 GT XLR with an 8 Track, my dad bought it new and kept it for 18 years and I learnt to drive in it and then sold it for a MK1 Golf GTI (wish I had kept it), Im 31 now
remember Dark side of the Moon on 8 track and Tubular Bells. |
Congrats on the baby:):D:D:)
Me, first picture in a car was a 1950's Austin 7 or something simular. The first one I remember was a green Vauxhaul Wyvern. My first car was a 1965 mini MOT failure. seam welded, "s" disks, half rollcage and a MG 1100 ported engine:D 12 months to do up:D 1 year later rolled it on Bengry's Builth wales novice rally 1981 :D:D:D:D:D:D Tony |
My first memorable car journey was when I was 3 or 4 years old and I had gone to my friends birthday party, being held at his dads nightclub (studio 1 which has now had a shopping centre built on it) during the daytime and I got a lift home afterwards in his Dads Rolls Royce.
The thing that sticks in my mind is the little drinks cabinet that was in the back and the drop down tables in the back of the front seats. The car was a horrid colour a sort of brownie gold. My next memory after that was my dad having a Cream Maxi and me thinking that the back seat was really wide, as I was able to lie down on it and goto sleep after coming back from a long day seeing the film sets at Shepperton he was working on at the time. regards ian |

This was what I nearly came home in ..
http://www.motorbase.com/pictures/ne...std_anglia.jpg Nearly because it objected to me being born, and threw its fan through the radiator - and the RAC weren't as quick in those days  I eventually came home in the fun car, although I grew out of it later. http://web.ukonline.co.uk/rileyrob/images/imps_x2.jpg The car was designed for small people, and being 6'5" at 13 meant I didn't fit! :D Still, we rebuilt it (again ) 3 years ago, and after mods (to the car, not me! :D), I now (just) fit in it. Duncan PS Matrix - is this the Daimler you are talking about? http://vianney.dewit.free.fr/sp250.JPG If so, an awesome engine looking for a decent home. The engine was a V8 based upon the cylinder head of the Manx Norton (also used for the Vanwall F1), the body fibreglass, but the chassis wasn't up to much. Still, the noise, the looks ..... |
Hillman Minx Early 60's type in green and cream , dad borrowed one again later when mum rolled the next car (pagent red HB Viva)in a ditch still remember sitting on the headlining looking out of the rear screen at the water below ,also remember spending every journey in the Viva standing on the trnsmission tunnel watching my dad drive and yearning to be 17 ... Its a good job we never had a frontal accident or I would have been through the screen and over the bonnet double quick , however I wonder how the petrol heads of the future will learn (and yearn)to drive while strapped into thier chairs . ho hum
Point of detail the Talbot Tagora was Granada plus size mate not Cortina , a very rare beast indeed ! |
i believe it look a lil something like this....
http://www.etconnect.com/gt/Mach/tf70mac.jpg MachI baby! :D Daddy's car... now Daddy has a Subie Wagon... i love my daddy.... :D Jamie www.subiegal.com www.subiegalracing.com |
Hello,
I recently became a dad :) ! Little Hannah is now 9 days old and it's come the time when I get to pick her and my wife up from the hospital and take them home for the 1st time  . This means Hannah first outing in a car will be in the back of my MY00 DBM wagon (with Scoobysport exhaust :) :) ) .. how cool is that .. first car = Subaru Impreza. This got me thinking, what's the first car you were in .. or remember being in? I dunno about the 1st car (Wolsley I think) but the first car I remember being in was a 1750 Austin Maxi. It was a kind of puce green. I remember not being able to sit on the back seats in the summer as the vinyl was sooo hot it burnt your legs when you had shorts on. What's the first car you remember being/were in? Doofus. P.S I'm 30 to give you some sort of timescale ! Edited to say TI6GER was correct, it was a 1750 Maxi .. I was thinking of the 1275 Chevette I first ownwed  [Edited by Doofus - 2/8/2002 10:03:25 AM] |
Mini Cooper S, an original one. My mum and dad used to hillclimb a souped up, twin carbed Mini Traveller too and take me along when I was a toddler, I think that's where I got my love of cars from :D
I used to have a plastic stick on steering wheel with a little horn in the middle so that I could 'drive' it too :D :D :D Sal [Edited by scoobychick - 2/8/2002 11:26:42 AM] |
Bright yellow mini with my Mum...she let me climb through the windows like on Dukes of Hazard :D
I'm 23 in case you were wondering, and yes, I was a bit smaller when I used to climb through the windows! :) Jen Edited to say Congratualtions to Doofus! (get some sleep while you can!) :) [Edited by Jen - 2/8/2002 12:43:42 PM] |
Now I know I can beat all of you here without a problem.
(it probably explains the way i've turned out too) First car journey - White M Reg Reliant Robin Saloon (the 850cc super model - not the cheapo 750) http://www.warks1-noggin.co.uk/historie-robin.jpg Many messed up hippy types seemed to enjoy them. Glad my folks didn't do this: http://homepage.ntlworld.com/bruce.johnson/reliant.jpg You will be pleased to know my parents now have cars that have ALL 4 wheels and have done for at least the last 2 decades. It did have one advantage - I got a ride in one of the Ford RS200s being built at the factory a few years later - whoa !!! - now that is something you don't want to forget http://www.ee.surrey.ac.uk/Personal/.../rs200/200.jpg You have to be a strong person to own up to things like this. :D :D :D LOL. :D :D :D Ian http://www.aspian-software.co.uk/Sub...t/p1-thumb.jpg [Edited by igratton - 2/8/2002 1:31:44 PM] [Edited by igratton - 2/8/2002 1:33:52 PM] |
