29K - What would you buy?

Car - wise that is (up to a max 2 years old) :wonder:

AndyC_772 20 August 2008 03:37 PM

What do you need it to do, set lap times, transport the dog and kids, move house...?

collierm 20 August 2008 04:04 PM

I'd go older than 2 years and buy myself an M3 CSL. Great car. If it has to be new, the new Focus RS is a good car.

STiFreak 20 August 2008 04:13 PM

Buy a second hand blob or hawkeye for £10 to £15K and spend the rest modding it into a awesome road car :D

terzo204 20 August 2008 04:59 PM

1. Supercharged Exiege
2. late hawkeye Type RA / RA-R
3. Evo 9 FQ360.

In that order.

dunx 20 August 2008 05:12 PM

LOL I was going to suggest a whole street, Opp North ! of course.

Me I'm soft, it would have to be a 22B.

I would do the same , or wait abit longer for the new M3, not keen on the focus though

finchyboy 20 August 2008 05:29 PM

M3 CSL all the way you'll have enough change to whack a supercharger kit on it and a set of AP 6 pots and you will have truly one of the fastest point to point cars in the world !!

You're not likely to loose as much on the CSL depreciation wise they will always be desirable and have a cult following. I can see a point in the near future where they may even increase in value like the E30 M3 EVO Sports which are fetching around 20000 for a nice one.

tayscooby 20 August 2008 05:36 PM

Not many newer cars take my fancy and i would prob invest it and get my hands on a cossie rs500,which i should be doing in a few months when house sold.

kylejennings05 20 August 2008 06:54 PM

700bhp skyline for me:thumb: if i could handle it of course:lol1: :lol1:

SamUK 20 August 2008 06:56 PM

RS4 or the 996 TT

Borat_Drives_A_Scooby 20 August 2008 07:02 PM

It has to be the Litchfield Type25 and save about 7k, you will own a top car.

GavinE 20 August 2008 07:36 PM

Noble M12, but depends really what you want out of it.

M3, 2005-6 M5 both awesome cars

jods 20 August 2008 09:03 PM

It has to be fast - very fast when required, comfy (for the mrs to not complain) has to sound good, also has to kill trees as I drive by.

mpg is not a concern as long as it can get from one garage to the next without running out.

SamUK 20 August 2008 09:09 PM

Once you have driven the M5, you wont wana look down at the M3... lol...

so you got 29k to blow on a car...is fuel a factor? or anything else to do with the maintenance expence? Road Tax? Insurance etc..

The options are endless,
M5, or RS6 certainly fills your requirments, and would be my chioce but they are big cars.

M5 then, perhaps? RS4 or RS6? Something by TVR?

El Cat 20 August 2008 09:54 PM

id get a
a few cars
a decent classic
a decent bugeye
and a decent hawkeye!
reckon id get something pretty decent in all those areas for £29k

beef-on-the-bone 20 August 2008 10:02 PM

i'd start to narrow it down if i were you
saloon/coupe/estate
2/4 seats
luxury/sports

etc etc

reckon you end up with something fast and german

This thread must be a wind up. Suggest a budget that covers 99% of all cars on the road, lay down the widest brief possible and sit back and watch the stupid suggestions roll in:notworthy .

Here's my suggestion. Get the oldest classic you can find with a knackered engine for about a grand then spend the remaining £28,000 on a new engine with at least 600bhp. Job done.

It's not that much more stupid than a lot of the supposedly sensible answers:rolleyes:

jods 21 August 2008 01:00 AM

OK - Here's the rub
A friend of mine currently runs an MX-5

Definition here :
Urban Dictionary: hairdressers car

He's has enuff of being a gaylord (FINALLY) and is looking for a car that gives him a G-Force experience.

He's not looking for an old car (3+ Years)

Only has 29K to spend

For me - My next car is going to be an Audi A8 - I think....

D.O.M 21 August 2008 01:07 AM

Just cause you can't think of any small diesels that cost £29k...:lol1:

Believe it or not I couldn't care less if people want to spend a shed load of money on a car whose performance can't be used 95% of the time. But suggestions like a 600bhp Skyline and a 25 yr old Sierra are just fecking stupid. And then you get other dumb ideas like supercharging an M3CSL (just brilliant for residuals) or a 996TT (that's going to be a real gem of a car at that price).

A better title for threads like this would be "what's the best way to piss £29k up the wall?".

And one last thing. I have 50p for charity that says this chap is going to miss the balance and chuckability of his MX5 and is going to find a heavy, high traction rocketship about as fun as a punch on the nose. What a wally.

My 25 year old sierra sugestion may be feckin stupid as you put it but its one car that wont lose any money if looked after, could be used then sold for a profit in a few years, which is my intention.Dam howe feckin stupid i am eh,imagine not wanting to lose thousands and thousands depreciation.

Yeah, and what a really reliable daily driver that is going to be:cuckoo: .

Very, actually:cuckoo: . There is a reason why they are so expensive - there are virtually none left because they have all fallen apart or been wrapped around a tree. No one in their right mind is going to use a 25 yr old RS500 as a daily driver. If you've got loads of cash and can use it only on sunny days when you fancy a change from one of your other fleet then fine, but every day is dumb.

And one final thing while you're getting all shirty. If they are such a cast iron ownership prospect then why don't you have one? If you have a mortgage then take out a load of equity/remortgage and pay cash for the Sierra. You could run it for three years for virtually nothing and then sell it for a profit. You'd actually pay off the mortgage quicker that way. Or is that just bollox?
