Audi R8 V12 Diesel

It's not actually commissioned yet but we've paid a (refundable) deposit down on the R8 diesel which is due for release in 2009-2010 thats as much as is know date wise.

It's the Audi R8 V12 Concept if anyone has heard about it, it's basically the same engine they used in the Le Man's winning Audi.

Spec for anyone interested is...

500PS and 1,000Nm so not to shy on the torque side of things

It's a 6.0litre 12 cylinder TDI engine. The 1,000Nm of torque comes from 1,750rpm to 3,000rpm. 0-62 is 4.2 and it's top speed is a limited 186mph.

It's classed as 'LOW' emissions law that is going to be applied in 2014.

Has 3 suspension mode with a magnetic ride, which are dynamic, sports and race.

Display will show information like centrifugal force and boost pressure.

Audi have not yet decided if it will be built but were top of the R8 DMS System with deposit paid so if it is, then pretty much will have 1 of the first that are produced.

Images of it here.

Interesting to see if they do build it - pretty sure they will, and to what the mpg will be on a 6.0 litre v12 ! As for me the economy is the only reason I would buy a diesel !

It's supposed to be around 24-28mpg.

The SL55 AMG F1 we have can be as low as 4-7mpg on a heavy session though and driving like Ms. Daisy still only manage around a 17-19mpg return remaining at low revs.

I think even that's optimistic.

I reckon on 15/20 hooning, and 20-25 in mixed driving with 30mpg on a long trip. We'll have to wait and see.

Is all the powe between 1750 and 3000rpm? That's a tiny (albeit intense!) powerband of 1250rpm..... What sort of power is there before 1750 and after 3000?

No doubt it'll be a beast, an unusual one and no doubt supplemented with an Audi marketing campaign to get people buying their other diesels in the normal cars. I expect lots of diesel "sports" packs on them too...

Seriously doubt it'll be out before 2010. More like 2011-12. Why?

The V10 Petrol comes out very late this year/early next. Audi will want to sell as many as possible. The V12 Diesel will spoil sales, as it will be quicker (in gear) than both V8 or V10.

Just my opinion of course.

BTW. My old man has the V8 R8. Stonking car. :thumb:

Adblue is Audi's way of filtering diesel (soot) particles from the exhaust isnt it ?

it isnt audi's way of doing the are a lot of wagon makers using the same system, it basically removes the particles from ur emmisions but if it runs out the emmissons become appaling
