hi mate how easy is it to fit the front mount to a classic with air con fitted

thanks

harvey 27 August 2008 08:04 AM

There is no problem fitting to a car with air con and there is no problem with Subaru spotlights (fog) either.
What model and year do you have?

Fitting to the Legacy requires some adaptation.

thanks its a classic on a k reg import and how do i order it please thanks again

harvey 27 August 2008 11:12 AM

I asked about the year because on some older cars there is a slight fit issue with the pipe that runs from the timing chest to the throttlebody.
It does not affect all cars and the cure is easy IF the problem arises on your installation. Simply cut the hard pipe at the most appropriate place in the vicinity of the battery to screen wash bottle, insert a joiner and clamp up. This allows for the long hard pipe route to be adjusted as required for a neater fit.
You will see I have a joiner and two clamps as an option on the additional list.

* Additonal silicon joiner and 2 no. pipe clamps. This allows cutting the hard pipe near the screen wash bottle. This articulation makes fitting easier/neater particularly on MY93-96. Add £12.00.
It saves you faffing about looking for silicon hose or proper clamps when you are half way through the instal.

To order, simply send the correct payment for whatever you want via Paypal with the delivery address to harveysmith1@btopenworld.com
For payment up to 16:00 (that I am aware of) I can probably have the kit to you next day. Alternatively you pay via internet bank, bank transfer or cash across any bank counter.

Delivery UK Mainland

There is no such thing as Mainland UK. Without Northern Ireland the Uk does not exist. It's simply Great Britain.

eggy790 31 August 2008 01:37 PM

whats the benefit of a FMI? soorry im new to this :$

harvey 31 August 2008 06:15 PM

Hi Resintooth : Thank you for your views on the subject, however, as most people know, in postal and geographical terms the UK mainland comprises of the mainland of Scotland, England and Wales. Non mainland destinations include Orkney, Shetland, The Western Isles, Ulster and Channel Isles.
I am not sure about the people of the Isle of Wight :)

Unfortunately, it is necessary to make the mainland classification because most parcel companies charge extra for deliveries outwith the mainland.
Having lived in the six counties for some time, I am well aware that this may rankle you but the situation is outwith my control.

harvey 31 August 2008 06:32 PM

Hi Eggy : Cars fitted with turbo chargers usually require an intercooler of some sort. This can be air to air or air to water.
Discharge from the turbo compressor is pretty hot. Just like when you use a push bike tyre pump so the turbo charger compresses the air and this causes a temperature rise. The turbo air discharge on a Subaru can be 200c quite easily. Most turbo Subarus leave the factory with a top mounted intercooler. This sits on top of the engine in front of the bulk head below the bonnet air scoop. Air from the turbo charger compressor flows through the top mount intercooler and in to the engine via the throttle body and inlet manifold. The purpose of the TMIC is to reduce the air charge temperature. Hot inlet air is not good for developing power and therefore the colder the air charge the better.
Now because Subaru mount the TMIC on top of the engine there are space constraints as to the size of intercooler core and its performance in that location, particularly on an engine producing more than factory intended output.
On modified cars it is quite normal to fit a front mounted intercooler in the front bumper ahead of the radiator. This gets a cold air stream and can be much larger than the original equipment item. This can be a very good way to bring air charge temperatures under control.
Some people refer to the original TMIC as the interwarmer.

eggy790 31 August 2008 06:54 PM

thanks, exccelent explanation

resintooth 31 August 2008 07:36 PM

I totally understand that this is how some couriers work. I'm not having a go at you for it :) :) :)

Why not just say delivery cost is £££ to Great Britian

This only annoys me so much because I'm constantly being told after I order stuff online that i've to pay more for delivery because i live in Northern Ireland. Despite the website saying full UK delivery included for a cert amount. Always turns out this isnt the case.

harvey 09 September 2008 03:27 PM

Price firm to 30 September.

Going 4 400bhp 11 September 2008 12:44 AM

Hi Harvey im going to order one of these front mounts off you next week.

Just wont to know what dump v to use with it???

First i will be using a TD05 but then moving to an FP green at about 450bhp.

Could you please name a few so i can start looking for a good price:wonder:

Thank you.

By the way the car is a MY97 UK 2000

harvey 11 September 2008 09:46 AM

On your car the DV is quite capable (assuming it is a ver. 4 and not a 5 which has the DV on the TMIC front) so if you are going to retain the recirculating system which takes a little more work, you can reuse what you have with no problem. The increased power may not be a problem either. I run one of these at 422 bhp and it is fine. I regularly use ver 3 and 4 O/E DVs on all sorts of applications.
If it is a ver 5 with the DV bolted on the front of the TMIC, the same applies but you need a flange adaptor which I supply. £22.50.
If you want a VTA (Vent To Atmosphere) that requires no extra work. Just fit to the silicon joiner that I include in your kit and Bobs your uncle. ;)
If you want an aftermarket DV, recirc or VTA then I would go for a Forge. A quality item, various springs available and a helpful technical department.
I can get you either for about £100 delivered but people who specialise in DVs will probably give a better price so buy where it is cheapest.

wrxsti280 11 September 2008 12:47 PM

payment sent via paypal harvey

harvey 12 September 2008 10:24 AM

Cheers. All kits ordered yesterday will be delivered today.

bulletproofbob 12 September 2008 01:33 PM

hmmm want one, but will it pass my cold air kit through the inner wing..... hmmm...

harvey 12 September 2008 09:07 PM

Send me a photograph of your existing kit and inner wing area.
Depending on model and year and type of kit it is usually possible to get these to fit although sometimes minor adaptation is required.
