Actually joining can be difficult without a German card: youll have to pay by cheque...

We do work for all major clubs and lots of smaller ones and have never heard of them so may be a problem if not in a city if they use contractors.As far as i mind subaru assistance is run by RAC.Best company i can reccomend out of the lot is brittania whos customer service and pricing is always spot on.Worth having a look.Also look out for hidden small print where in reality its only roadside cover you get(a fave if you get breakdown cover through your insurance),we get loads of them where person thinks there covered but arent.

Not bad points but none of that applies to ADAC.

It would if you broke down in this country would it not ?,unless they are using the likes of aa or rac for there jobs over here.You could find yourself waiting a very long time for help.

Yeh spotted that,but an example would be if you broke down near here,we dont do work for ADAC,next place up road doesnt,so with the size of our areas up here you could well find yourself hanging about waiting for hours and hours for them to get an agent to you.We all work on postcoded areas for breakdowns and thats big distances here,but as stated above i suspect they may use a uk company for there customers in uk.Just trying to offer some advise as what to look out for.

They have a reciprocal agreement, although I cant remember with whom...

When we went over to the 'Ring last year, we got ADAC cover for my mate's 205 GTi that we went in. They came to repair us at the 'Ring, no problems. In fact IIRC they are the ONLY ones who will recover you off the 'Ring for free. The local Bongard firm charged me EUR180 or something like that a couple of years earlier.

They also do work in the UK. If you ring their hotline you get put straight through to the AA. i.e. it doesn't matter that no-one knows ADAC over here, because they have an agreement with AA, as all breakdown services do with each other. When was the last time you saw an RAC or AA van on the continent, even though you pay them a bloody fortune for a few days European cover? They use ADAC or affiliated services to service their British customers while abroad, and our continental friends use AA through ADAC while they're here.

Soon as my mate bought the ADAC membership he rang up over here, to see what would happen. We also had no problem getting an English speaker when needing recovery in Germany.

It seems too cheap to be true, because they are not based in rip-off Britain.

Service is superb as well: in Germany the customer is king.

BTW I joined last month, phoned them up and they speak excellrnt English. Also accepted Credit card payment. The wife and I full EU cover any car is 90 Euros.

The ADAC and AA are partners, I have both logos on my ADAC card. And yes they do speak English.

So the question is, do I take the plunge and change over from RAC for me and the wife, who want almost £100 again for a year's UK cover, to ADAC Europe-wide for half the cost???

Jay - I know it worked for my mate, but my wife's edgy about not having AA or RAC...how can I convince her? And I remember last time he had a bit of a hassle having to print off forms, fax them off to Germany etc to get the membership started. Have they streamlined the process yet?

I joined ADAC early summer(mainly to cover me if anything went wrong when I'm at The 'Ring),rang them up,they covered me and the wife from midnight that night,membership number given over the phone.They sent the form out within a couple of days,filled it in with my credit card details,returned it same day and less than a week later we got our membership cards.
Full Europe wide cover for both of us for about £85,it's a no-brainer.Just make sure you get the AdacPlus with partnerplus package otherwise you won't get Europe wide cover.
As an example one of the lads used Adac in the UK,the week after we got back from The 'Ring,they took less than an hour to get out to him and recover him to a garage(it was the AA that turned up)

My AA membership is coming up, £127.50 :eek: ......... Need to compare ADACs packages.

Well the PartnerPlus is what I'm going for which I believe is rescue/recovery across Europe for me and my wife, whatever car we're in. Comes in at just under £80.
