Will I lose my remap?
 

Morning all.
Yesterday I went to London and all the way there the car was fine (200 miles).

On the way back I filled up with BP Ultimate, and a while after that I noticed hesitation at 5.5k rpm under full throttle, and over 5.5k it just felt a little flatter than usual. It pulls fine upto 5.5k? Any ideas?

If it is bad fuel (I have since topped up half a tank with V Power) will it sort itself, or do I need to reset the ECU? If I do reset ECU by disconnecting the battery, will I lose my ECUTEK remap?

Its a 2001 bugeye by the way.

You won't lose your map and with the new age ECUs they relearn quickly so that resetting is not necessary or relevant. Was the car mapped on V Power (99RON)?. If so then its likely that Ultimate (97RON and strange atomisation behavior) will lower the det threshold and cause the ECU to reduce boost/timing. Suggest you put a bit of Octane booster in tank to help get rid of the Ultimate and carry some in future if you have to use a lesser fuel.

Yo wont lose the Ecutek map by doing a reset. Could be bad batch of fuel or lower grade.

It was mapped on V Power, but have since run it on even regular 95 with no issues, but not often. So you guys think it could be a bad batch? Is this the kind of result you get from a bad batch?

I will try to get some booster later today, and not bother with the reset.

My car didn't like BP ultimate at all, even back when it was standard. Mine also felt flat and it was running rough (worse than on 95!)

If its mapped for V-Power then thats the fuel you should use or at least one of the same ron rating. A car mapped for V-Power running on 95 is a bit risky IMO.

Yes exactly, mapped specifically for that fuel and running on 95ron is treading on very thin ice.

Only done once when I had no other options, but it was fine. (wont do it again now though!).

Just hope its the BP petrol. Got a trackday next weekend....

TBH if you are over 21 and can exercise some self-control.... I use ordinary unleaded for the crawl to and from work through the winter, as I know it will barely get to 40 mph. OBVIOUSLY use the good stuff the rest of the time, the ecu is smart enough to pull the timing back to avoid damage.

If you're going to do a track day make sure you use all the rubbish up completely and fill with fresh V Power. Maybe toss in a bottle of millers for good measure (thats what I do). Strictly speaking I agree the ECU should compensate for lower RON fuel but its not a risk I care to take.

I think the extra cost of V Power is more than compensated by better fuel consumption anyway. I even put it in my runabout R reg 1.25 Fiesta which does 46mpg on NUL and 51mpg on V Power so I actually save doing this.

I have just thrown in a bottle of booster while I use the tankful up.

Should I put 2 in?
