Ban certain mobile calls
Guys,
The all knowing scoobynet population will no doubt know the answer to this. Here goes. I keep receiving calls from 1 particular number at the most unpopular times. I've rang the b@stard back this morning, and its clear its some sort of call centre. Last night was the final straw. I like many take the mobile to bed with the alarm set to wake me up. Now this week is particulary bad as I have to be up early and left home at 6.15am. Last night, whilst sleeping my mobile rings at 1.54am I in a confused state eventually wake up thinking its my alarm, only to be told by wife that its someone ringing. Cut them off, back to sleep. The b@stard then rings again at 2.25! The number is 0207 7382697 Started weeks ago - no real problem as mobile downstairs. They've rang all week. Thanks, Shaun |
there is software out there to ban, redirect calls automatically but it depends on what phone you have. If you have a Symbian OS phone then you can get some software called advanced call manager which allows you to set the phone not to ring, and redirect a call automatically.
Advanced Call Manager - WebGate JSC. The complete and reliable call management application! |
You can get your mobile number put onto the telephone preferance scheme TPS Registration
It might take a bit for your number to get to all of these sill call centres. I had several call from what your describing recently and after I took their details I reminded them my number is registered on the TPS. Alternatively telling the caller to F* off and blowing whistle down the phone is amusing ! Richard |
Did you know that your alarm will probably work with the phone turned off?
Every phone I have ever had will work turned off and people I know have been amazed when I tell them it can be turned off :thumb: |
Thanks,
Yes, I did tell them to F* Off last night. But it doesn't have the same venom when you're half asleep :D I am actually registered on TPS, house number and mobile. My mobile is a Sony Ericsson W850i Alarm working whilst turned off - no I didn't know that? Although I rather just ban that damn number. Shaun |
turn it off. the w850i turns on when the alarm goes off :thumb:
alternative is upgrade to a phone that can reject calls |
That number is located on the BT Battersea exchange and is in rough area of Brixton, London. You could ring BT and explain that you are getting lots of unwanted calls from this number and they have to investigate, but they are not renown for there ability to do anything.
The other option is OFCOM but they are weak as well, maybe ask what they want and who they are trying to speak to (not easy at 3.a.m.) if its a company OFCOM will be forced to act, as it is now classed as abuse of the telephone network. |
Sorry to jump in here, but is there something I can do, as I am having a similar experience on my home land line. A call centre keeps calling here, and no matter how quickly I answer, they hang up. I've called back, and eventually spoke to someone, told them I didn't want them calling anymore etc. but they just keep ringing.

Yeah Lisa,
Register here. TPS Registration You'll notice benefits in appox 1 month. I'm with them, and i've registered a complaint with this number earlier. Shaun |
Cheers. :thumb:

Shaun But thats how it is supposed to work a few SE phones I had I got just for this feature so as when I`m not working only the people I want to speak to can, it got quite annoying when witheld numbers can get through. I`ve now got a Nokia N82 and have added an app called Call filter where you can add numbers from your phonebook into this app and decide if you want to recieve calls from them or not, but still witheld numbers get through. But as have been said the Alarm will work with the phone switched off . |
As above, just setup your caller groups. Works a treat. just hangs up on any of the non-listed numbers
Although be warned if you use the emergency services (999) they can't call you back when its activated (number is withheld). Had that happen to me once, and I couldn't switch my caller profile, as their dialling system repeatedly kept trying to call me whilst I was trying to change the profile settings. |
