Thinking of trading my scoob for a Skyline

Hi

Am after some serious advice please!

I own a 02 bugeye sti uk 300 wanting to trade with a r33 gtr.

Are these quicker than a scoob? and in genaral are they good cars.

scatty 13 August 2008 10:41 PM

spoke to some skyline owners at a charity day we went to on sunday at bruntingthorpe and most said they are expensive to run, more so than the scoob....

bighead 13 August 2008 11:02 PM

trade for r34 ,not r33

I think a Skyline is one car that most people on here would agree is a real upgrade. Tuning potential is huge, it's a serious motor, go for it.

rob2006 13 August 2008 11:47 PM

Have a look at this thread. Very quick cars... they are expensive.

When it comes to repairs some mechanics crap their pants, parts will be deer

Friend owned R33 replaced it with a Sti v3. Says he prefers scooby.

If running costs weren't an issue, there are two cars that I would have over my scooby... and that's an fq evo 9 or a skyline.
So imo...do it ;)

I had a R33 GTR for a while, it was a very quick car but not as much fun as a subaru in my opinion. With an impreza or an evo you can have a lot of fun and usually get yourself out of any situation (easy handling and very forgiving) the skyline on the other hand can bite you if your not carefull. Suppose it all comes down to your driving style and ability. I would suggest you have a test drive in one and then jump straight back in your scoob and way up your options. As someone who has gone through the subaru to evo to skyline route, i think once owned you always want to get back into a scoob;)

I've had a 33 and 34 gtr.

Both fantastic cars but you will need deep deep pockets to run one.

If you're sensible and opt for a stage 1ish car running say 400bhp it should be very reliable and great fun if you like a bit of tail out action. But at this level of tune you wouldn't put much distance between you and say a 330bhp scoob, evo, etc.

Once you take them up to 500 I found that things started to break ;) That said, my 34 was running approx 500 and had done 100's of track days and about 20k.

Thanks for the input guys!

I'll be viewing a r33 this weekend and keep you posted if i decide to trade it in.

I drove one at Brands Hatch last Wednesday and they are great fun. It is Neil Wrenn's time attack car.

in car with me driving and Neil as passenger

from the pit wall on my first run

I'd have one any day of the week :D

Nice driving!

I wasn't actually trying but it's easier when the owner is sat next to you :lol1:

Initially I was showing him how the car responds when it breaks away because it's a new car to him but I accidently set a fast time whilst messing around :lol1: I pulled in the pits as you can see at the end of the pitwall cam video and took him out for a few laps then later on in the day we put the camera in and went for a play for the camera :D

As said I here running costs are high. My mate (who I imagine although he says not, canes the arse off his everywhere to be fair) struggles to get 80 miles out of £60 worth of fuel. His is a tuned (to about 450) R33 and is he wants shot for 10k .... its been on the market for 6 months I reckon now!

awosome cars but u realy need to have deep deep deep pockets,500bhp skyline wont be as quick as a 400 bhp scooby u need to be runnning 600bhp to have a seriously quick car there r33 gtr are droping in value soon when the R35 comes the R34 will loose value so my advice to u wait a bit enjoy ur scooby untill the R35 is out and then sanp up an R34.for the mean time put an 18g or an MD turbo in ur car get it mapped that should cure ur adrenaline untill the R35 is out by then the R34 will be cheap as chips.great idea there for u problem solved

There is something seriously wrong with his car or his driving then as my 600bhp skyline was identical on fuel to my scooby. (only slightly worse when caining it).

A couple of my mates have R33 GTRs (one a V-Spec and the other a 400R).

Both are tuned to some degree (390 BHP and 600 respectively), but the price of parts is incredibly high - £700 for a front nearside driveshaft on one of them recently - so its a case of hunting down decent secondhand parts all the time, and then who knows how long they'll last.

Fuel-wise, the V-Spec seems to be on a par with my UK spec Classic at about 200 to 220 miles to a tank if driven 'spiritedly'.

Fantastic cars, though.

timmy2take 21 August 2008 10:26 AM

r32 all the way with your budget + you've got some money spare for mods and repairs.

Blueblaster 21 August 2008 10:34 AM

It might help if the OP says why he wants to change. If it's a daily driver I fear it will be too big, too unreliable and too expensive to be any real fun. I don't even want to think about the cost of repairs when it breaks down:eek: .

philhasasti 21 August 2008 11:26 AM

i had a skyline before i bought the scooby and i must be honest, i miss the skyline! i had it for over a year and had no problems at all! saying that tho the fuel cost were shocking, its the only reason i sold it!!! that and the insurance!!
the power delivery is different aswell! i must say the skyline gtr will rip your face off!
but ive settled for the scooby and im loving it just as much!!!!
its your own choice mate! good luck!!!
