Clean Exhaust
Hi,
I'm having real trouble getting some black residue off the inside of my exhaust. It's really stubborn round the tip at the bottom and just inside. I've been using Autoglym metal polish with a pan scourer / sponge thing, that the mrs uses to clean non stick pans. Is Autosol any stronger, or can you recommend anything else? Cheers |

a pan scourer on your exhaust? surely that will scratch it to bits?
|
The inside :wonder:

Cheers, I think I'll give Autosol a try.
Pan Scourer actually works really well, it's not very abrasive and safe to use on non stick pans |
What you need is some fine wire wool and autosoul. Trust me. It does not scratch the exhaust at all. After, you have got to the level of shininess you require, Then followup using megs NXT metal paste with an applicator pad. Then stand back and admire.

I use autosol and blackfire metal polish I did this golfs tailpipe with blackfire I didnt use the dremal thing on this but could of done to remove the little bit of black stuff that remained in the tail pipe http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...orstbefore.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...zorstafter.jpg |
i start with megs super degreaser (cut to 4-1) and a tooth brush. spray some on and let it soak while you wash the rest of the car. then any bits that done come off i go to mothers mag and aluminium polish on the tooth brush. this stuff eclipses autosol and all other metal polishes i've tried.
if that doesn't work then i'll go to 3000g wet and dry paper with the polish. once i'm happy i'll polish up using the mag and alu polish on a microfibre. before http://i194.photobucket.com/albums/z...g/IMG_9118.jpg after http://i194.photobucket.com/albums/z...g/IMG_9129.jpg |

Slightly OT, but picking up on the question from F1 CJE UK: what is a good dremel kit to buy, that comes with a range of attachments that will cover the majority of usual uses?
As a dremel virgin, there seems to be quite a range of kits..and prices! |
This is what we have, and it works great for tasks like those shown above...
DREMEL-DIRECT.COM 300 Series + 55 Accessories and Case + a lot of the bits shown on this page... DREMEL-DIRECT.COM 3. Cleaning / Polishing ...for various metal types, and access requirements (because we get a lot of different cars in through the door!). :thumb: |
thanks for that PB (good Q tim) will have to look into getting one some time
|
...and once you've cleaned it, you can use this to keep it looking good, and minimise the amount of polishing required in the future...
