subaruturbo_18 08 August 2008 02:54 PM

HankScorpio 08 August 2008 03:24 PM

As with any manufacturer, you'll always get the odd car that is unreliable.

Think Porsche are more reliable than others.

lozgti 08 August 2008 03:35 PM

Thats poor.

Our 70k Jap Crap X Trail still going ok.Hoping for another 150k out of it too!(love it though)

hope the sods don't sting with a big bill

"If you're aspiring to a Porsche Cayenne.."

I wasn't, certainly not now !

911 is where its at.

SwissTony 08 August 2008 10:05 PM

1.5 Hours

It obviously doesn't have anything attached to it or there must be 12 guys taking it apart

zip106 08 August 2008 11:40 PM

On the flip side though, my pal has had 3 Cayennes since they came out and hasn't had any problems with any of them.

My brother's Shogun, on the other hand, has spent so much time at the dealers being fixed...

If it's the diesel version you may not get another 70k ;)

4/5 year old Cayenne Turbos for £15k! Madness, considering 15 year old 928s go for £20k!

You get about 150 miles on a tank, not good!

Nat 10 August 2008 07:14 AM

I'm considering getting a turbo now just for the amusment and stupidity of it. I don't need to drive at all and don't at the moment so would probably only do about 150 miles a month on my own and then use it for road trips with my mates (splitting fuel)...buy one just serviced with 12 months tax on it then flog it (they can't devalue any more, can they?!?) after a years cheap motoring :D

NotoriousREV 10 August 2008 07:50 AM

Hmm, Cayenne + LPG = bargain ;)

Big difference though as 928 is a classic sports car.

the market will never see the Cayenne as a "real" porsche so it will get valued as so it was, for example, a VW toerag which is pretty much the same car but looks a lot nicer than the porsche.

billythekid 10 August 2008 03:29 PM

IIRC the "S" can have problems due to its very high compression ratio. Its always advisable to run them on Optimax.
IIRC.

sti-04!! 10 August 2008 04:17 PM

I had a turbo a couple of years ago, never had a problem with it. Chopped it in for an RR TDV8 which was never out the dealers with electrical issues.
Horses for courses :)

Janspeed 10 August 2008 04:55 PM

The big question here is; does it have a good boot? :lol1:

Petrol 2.5.

phew:D

Olly 11 August 2008 11:23 AM

Just had the news from the dealers that we weren't looking forward to. New engine required.

Metallic particles found in engine, picked up on bores and bearings. Full rebuild not recommended, replacement advised. Dealers have put a claim in to Porsche, but not looking very hopeful.

Looks like we'll be keeping this one and and running it into the ground. Chelsea tractor sh1te :) Should have bought a Land Cruiser.

austinwrx 11 August 2008 12:04 PM

be under warenty won't it ?? its new ??

NotoriousREV 11 August 2008 12:11 PM

Throw a small block Chevy in it, it'll last forever ;)

J4CKO 11 August 2008 12:15 PM

At the moment, prices being what they are for honking great Petrol V8 4 * 4s, the cost of a new engine from Porsche on one of those could realistically mean it is uneconomical to repair.

Hope that Porsche do the decent thing and pay for a new unit to be fitted.

I know you said only 29k on the clock and £55k from new but how old is it?

If it is fairly new I guess you might be ok.Shouldn't need a new engine if just a couple of years old?!

Edit...mind you, presume being on a second engine would knock a few quid off second hand value? That sucks

Olly 11 August 2008 02:11 PM

5 years old, 29k miles, FPSH, owned from new. Hardest work it does is sprinting out of Sainsbury's roundabout.

I suppose Porsche has every right to say bugger off. Personally I thint that they should bend over backwards. If Fiesta's blew up at 30k, no-one would buy them. Yet in recent years Porsche seems to have quietly earned a reputation for producing engines with inbuilt problems and flaws, yet seems to still be able to hide behind brand image and romantic notions of precision German engineering.

As mentioned, the Cayenne isn't mine personally, but in the business we all use each others cars, and I usually drive it at least once a week. And having experienced it from new, the deterioration in the build (awful rattles, squeaks), suspension and ride (thumps, bangs), and now this, suggests pretty poor engineering quality to me.

zip106 11 August 2008 05:29 PM

Didn't you re-new the warranty each year after year 2?
