What's wrong with my front grill?

I had a MY98 grill on the car before. As with this one, the hood was larger than it. I thought that with an STI IV I was going to solve the problem... but the hood sits in the exact same place. I have looked and I can't pull the hood further away.

The car is MY96, I facelifted it with lights, grill and hood. Are the hood brackets different between the facelift models? How can I align the grill with the hood?

Here is a picture of the car so you can see the problem.

Anyone can confirm if theirs is like this?

adzer 07 August 2008 10:56 PM

just looked at mine, it is a classic (95) with facelift lights and grill but not the bonnet.

my bonnet lines up with the grill but shape doesn't match exactly as the bonnet isn't a facelift one but was planning on buying a facelift carbon bonnet would i need to change the hinges or catches to fit this?

i'd be interested to find out too mate.

after looking at your pics closer it looks like your bonnet doesn't even line up with the headlights?? bonnet should sit flush with top of the headlights shouldn't it?

i'm thinking the bonnet hinges are different but then if the bonnet is moved back would it still line up with the catch?

Is the facelift hood an orignal or pattern part?

Have you tried adjusting the hood from the hinges, even though there is not much adjustment.

EDV11 08 August 2008 09:32 AM

The hood is original, but the hinges are the ones that were already in my car, from the previous hood. When I bought the hood it came without hinges.

The ones that have facelifted their car, can you please confirm me if you did it with your stock hinges or with the ones in the hood?

does it line up with your wings?
if so its your front panel whats bent.

EDV11 08 August 2008 07:45 PM

Yes, the wings are just perfect, the only problem is on the front

My bonnet opened when driving once at low speed & hit the screen in my old classic. The bonnet was creased & the hinges where damaged. I only found out about the hinges when trying to align the new bonnet. So I replaced them from a gl model classic.

It possible that the hinges may be damaged from a pre accident (previous owners etc.)

You could measure the rear of the bonnet to the screen & compare the measurement with another scooby. Get some more pictures of the complete front end so we can see how it fits.
Likewise the head lights are suppose to be flush with the bonnet, your bonnet hangs over the lights.

If theres no difference with new hinges then you could drill the lower section mounting holes of the hinges slightly larger or make 2 slot shapes. That might give you further adjustment.

Looks like your headlamp panels are pushed back due to possible previous damage...

Hinges, wings, front panels etc... are the same no matter what year...

I will make detail pictures of all the front and post them so you can check it.

Two weeks ago I was in the States, so it could have been hard to meet :lol1:. But anyway, if you plan to come back soon it would be fantastic to have someone experienced taking a look at it.
